Job summary

Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc (AMA) seeks a part-time CAD Modeling Intern to support the Flight Dynamics Research Facility at NASA Langley. The role focuses on developing CAD models for free flight and forced oscillation configurations to enable rapid prototype fabrication and validation data for trajectory simulations.

The intern will produce .igs/.stp models, consider mounting interfaces, and create movable center of gravity designs, using FDM 3D printing as needed.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or Graduate student with a degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in developing CAD models or 2 semesters of relevant CAD coursework.
• Experience with .igs or .stp, as well as the native CAD format.
• Ability to work onsite at NASA Langley

Responsibilities

• Develop models in the form of .igs or .stp, as well as the native CAD format used for the design work.
• Develop CAD models for oscillation configurations that include location of mounting interface at specified reference points
• Design geometry to accommodate thermal inset fasteners for accurate and reliable mounting to the balance sting
• Create CAD solid models of free flight wind tunnel models using FDM 3D printing methods or similar
• Design the models to enable a movable center of gravity
