Job summary

Barrette Workforce Solutions, LLC seeks a Controls Engineer II in Wyoming, MI to own the full engineering lifecycle of custom automation systems. Responsibilities include design, programming, integration, debugging, and on-site commissioning, with travel up to 15% as needed.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s in Electrical/Automation/Mechanical engineering and 5+ years’ experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley platforms, AutoCAD Electrical, and robotics integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline (or equivalent practical industry experience).
• 5+ years of direct industry experience designing, building, and programming custom industrial automation systems.
• Experience with NEC, NFPA 79, and RIA TR R15.06 electrical codes.
• Experience in Rockwell/Allen-Bradley platforms (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View) required; other platforms preferred but not required.
• Competent in AutoCAD Electrical.
• Experience with major industrial robot brands preferred but not required.
• Strong root-cause analysis, critical thinking, and structured troubleshooting capabilities.
• Willingness to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Develop control software architectures using PLCs and HMIs.
• Integrate robotics, vision systems, VFDs, and servo applications into control logic.
• Configure and troubleshoot network interfaces (DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Profinet).
• Design electrical panels, schematics, layouts, and BOMs with AutoCAD Electrical.
• Create pneumatic and hydraulic schematics and I/O maps.
• Develop robot paths and offline programming for floor integration.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Support commissioning and on-site customer training and handover.
