Job summary

Hire Consulting Services is seeking a Controls Engineer II in Wyoming, MI. The role leads full lifecycle engineering for custom automation, from concept through commissioning, emphasizing electrical design, PLC/HMI architectures, and safety compliance.

The candidate will program, debug, and integrate systems with Rockwell AB platforms, AutoCAD Electrical, and robotics, while traveling up to 15% for client support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 5+ years designing, building, and programming custom industrial automation systems.
• Experience with NEC, NFPA 79, and RIA TR R15.06 electrical codes.
• Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley platforms required (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View).
• AutoCAD Electrical competence is required.
• Robot brand experience (FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa, KUKA) preferred.
• Strong root-cause analysis and structured troubleshooting.
• Willingness to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Define and implement controls architecture using PLCs and HMI to build machine control software.
• Integrate robotics, vision systems, VFDs, and servo applications into control logic.
• Configure network interfaces (DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Profinet).
• Create electrical panel schematics and BOMs with AutoCAD Electrical.
• Develop pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams and I/O maps.
• Develop robot paths and offline programming for system integration.
• Lead engineering standards and reusable code libraries.
• Review customer specs to ensure hardware and logic meet requirements.
• Coordinate power-up, validation, and full system debugging on site.
• Provide on-site commissioning support and client handover documentation.
• Conduct safety assessments and ensure compliant human-safe interfaces.
• Mentor entry-level controls engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
