Job summary

Kingfisher Recruiting seeks a Controls Engineer II in Wyoming, MI. You will own the full engineering lifecycle for custom automation, from concept validation through commissioning, with strong focus on electrical design and software architecture.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, 5+ years in industrial automation, and Rockwell/Allen-Bradley experience; travel up to 15% is required. Competitive salary and benefits offered.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical industry experience).
5+ years of direct industry experience designing, building, and programming custom industrial automation systems.
Experience with industrial automation and electrical codes, including NEC, NFPA 79, and RIA TR R15.06.
Experience in Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley platforms (e.g., Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View) is required. Other platforms (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Omron, Mitsubishi) are preferred but not required.
Must be competent in AutoCAD Electrical.
Experience with major industrial robot brand (e.g., FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa, KUKA) is strongly preferred but not required.
Strong root-cause analysis, critical thinking, and structured troubleshooting capabilities to address unusual system anomalies.
Willingness and capability to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally to support system integration at customer facilities.

Responsibilities

Controls Architecture: utilize PLCs and HMIs to build machine control software architectures.
Integrate robotics, vision systems, drives, and servo applications into the control logic.
Configure network interfaces across DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, and Profinet.
Design electrical panels, layouts, and BOMs using AutoCAD Electrical.
Generate pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams and I/O maps.
Robot Programming: develop robot paths and offline programming for floor integration.
Engineering Standards: develop reusable code libraries and best practices.
Specification Review: verify customer specs align with hardware and logic.
System Integration & Debug: coordinate power-up, validation, and full debug.
Commissioning & Support: on-site startup and client handover training.
Safety Assessments: perform functional safety validations and ensure compliance.
Collaboration: mentor junior engineers and liaise with cross-functional teams.
