Top Echelon LLC in Wyoming, MI seeks a Controls Engineer II to lead the full engineering lifecycle of custom automation systems. The role covers inception, programming, validation, system integration, debugging, and on-site commissioning in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

The candidate will design electrical panels, integrate robotics and vision systems, and ensure safety compliance. Travel up to 15% domestically and internationally, with strong Rockwell Automation expertise and AutoCAD

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 5+ years of direct industry experience designing, building, and programming custom automation systems.
• Experience with industrial automation and electrical codes (NEC, NFPA 79, RIA TR R15.06).
• Experience with Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley platforms (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View) required; other platforms preferred.
• Must be competent in AutoCAD Electrical.
• Experience with major robot brands (FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa, KUKA) preferred.
• Strong root-cause analysis, critical thinking, troubleshooting skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement machine control software architectures using PLCs and HMIs.
• Integrate robotics, vision systems, drives, and servos into control logic.
• Configure networks (DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Profinet) and develop I/O maps.
• Create electrical panel schematics, layouts and BOMs with AutoCAD Electrical.
• Develop robot paths and offline programming for seamless floor integration.
• Lead standards and reusable libraries to improve efficiency.
• Coordinate commissioning, on-site startup, and client handover.
• Provide safety assessments and ensure compliance with protocols.
