Job Title:

Administrative Assistant

General Summary

This position is for an Administrative Assistant in the Senate Committee on Governmental Oversight and Accountability. This role requires independent work performing administrative tasks and assignments. Work will include use of various typical and specialized computer programs, and performance of routine and non-routine tasks following standardized practices. At times, work may be required to be performed under pressure to meet deadlines or other time constraints.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Assists unit members in handling daily administrative duties and acts in matters where authority has been delegated.
  • Tracks legislation referred to the committee as the legislation proceeds through the legislative process.
  • Operates a computer to perform spreadsheet applications, word processing, and database management.
  • Uses various computer programs/systems to prepare meeting notices, detailed agendas, bill analyses, and other meeting materials, and to record and report committee actions.
  • Acts as official custodian of bills received by the committee and any committee material subject retention and archival schedules.
  • Edits and proofs amendments, bill analyses, and other documents for appropriate formatting and readability.
  • Reviews records and reports which require action and recommends solutions or courses of action.
  • Prepares a variety of correspondence, secures information necessary for preparing replies to inquiries, and responds to telephone inquiries to relieve unit members from routine assignments.
  • Performs research projects as directed and generally keeps abreast of issues under the jurisdiction of the committee.
  • Performs special assignments and report preparation.
  • Assists in formulating and recommending programs and policies of the unit; interprets and administers policies.
  • Assists in conducting committee meetings and workshops.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Knowledge of administrative principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of research techniques.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and review work for accuracy and quality of content.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member and to contribute to the efficient internal functioning of the unit.
  • Ability to be resourceful and perform under pressure on multiple tasks.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Knowledge of typical computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the demands of legislators, legislative staff, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and maintain records.

  • Ability to supervise people.
Minimum Qualifications
