Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members provide coaching and mentoring to students across elementary to high school levels, helping them achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors. Members work with teachers on in-class support and monitor individual progress using City Year’s data system.

Training is provided (2–4 weeks) and members work with partner teachers and school staff throughout the year to support student growth and engagement.

Qualifications

• Experience in coaching or mentoring students is preferred but training is provided.
• Ability to plan, monitor progress and collaborate with teachers.
• Comfort with collecting and reviewing student progress data.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and math activities and encourage completion of assignments.
• Create a behavior management plan and support student interpersonal development.
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor progress and participate in reviews.
• Contribute to engaging, safe classroom spaces and schoolwide initiatives.
