Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members provide coaching and mentoring to elementary, middle, and/or high school students to help them achieve academic success and improve attendance. You will plan, monitor progress, and work with teachers on in-class support and individualized student assistance.

Training is provided, and members will join partner teachers and staff to deliver literacy, math support, and behavior management strategies. Benefits include stipends and city-wide learning opportunities.

Qualifications

• Be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident; AmeriCorps eligibility rules apply.
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025 and able to start by July/August 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, or some college experience.
• Commitment to serving in City Year AmeriCorps program.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Support literacy and math skills with varied activities and guidance.
• Create and implement a behavior management system.
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor progress in City Year’s data system.
• Support extended day and virtual programs before, during and after school.
• Help recognize student growth through events and programs.
