Job Description – Trainee Ship Broker
  • Typical responsibilities of a Shipbroker would involve marketing tonnage (ships) to customers/shippers/charterers. Negotiate spot/time charters to achieve maximum income for the owners.
  • You would maintain records or tonnage within the company’s database.
  • A Shipbroker is involved in many stages of setting up and negotiating deals, including presenting the business to potential clients, negotiating the main terms of a contract or sale, and seeing it through to its conclusion and any follow up that may be involved.
  • Like any role that involves buying and selling, a good Shipbroker would build up a database of contacts and keep a close eye on the shipping market, interpreting trends and spotting opportunities for clients.
  • Real-world experience in a challenging and fast-paced shipbroking environment
Prerequisites/Requirements
  • Maritime Studies-related fresh graduate students with a keen interest in the shipbroking industry are welcome to apply.
  • The ideal candidate would hold a shipping degree, commercial degree, or similar commercial qualification.
  • Possess a good command of English and Mandarin; any proficiency in a third language will be highly favorable.
  • A good understanding of accounting and numeracy skills is essential to this job.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills required.
  • Candidate needs to be a team player, able to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
