Job summary

An international shipowner in Singapore is seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to oversee the efficient operation of vessels. The role includes ensuring compliance with industry standards, managing vessel maintenance, and leading a team. Ideal candidates have a strong technical background in vessel operations, relevant certifications, and leadership experience. Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Technical Superintendent.
  • At least 6 months as a Chief Engineer on vessels.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with tanker vessels.
  • Experience in staff management, including appraisals.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Class, Flag State, and oil company requirements.
  • Plan and monitor Class and Flag State surveys.
  • Oversee vessel maintenance and repair activities.
  • Manage the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • Plan and supervise drydocking activities.
  • Monitor and analyse vessel performance.
  • Review and address Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Lead and develop ship staff in partnership with Crewing teams.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Technical Superintendent to join an established and international Shipowner in Singapore. The Technical Superintendent will oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of vessels, ensuring adherence to industry standards and supporting the technical performance of the fleet. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in vessel management, a strong understanding of technical operations, and a hands‑on leadership approach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with Class, Flag State, and major oil company requirements to maintain vessel seaworthiness for commercial operations.

  • Plan and monitor Class and Flag State surveys, ensuring all certifications remain valid.

  • Oversee vessel maintenance and repair activities, including troubleshooting and providing technical expertise.

  • Manage the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and vessel worklists.

  • Plan and supervise drydocking activities, including requirements, specifications, costing, and performance monitoring.

  • Evaluate drydocking projects, review lessons learned and manage invoicing processes.

  • Assess and recommend approval for stores and spares requisitions.

  • Monitor and analyse vessel performance, including costs, fuel, and lubricants consumption, providing recommendations for improvement.

  • Review and address Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and ensure vessel compliance with MOC, Class, and Charterer requirements.

  • Contribute to technical documentation, including newbuilding specifications and vessel modifications.

  • Support inspections, audits, vessel takeovers, and sale & purchase activities.

  • Lead, coach, and develop ship staff in partnership with Crewing teams, including appraisals of Masters, Chief Engineers, and senior officers.

  • Promote safety, cost leadership, and operational excellence across the fleet.

Requirements
  • Certificate of Competency (Class I) / Chief Engineer Foreign Going.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Technical Superintendent or at least 6 months as a Chief Engineer on board vessels.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with tanker vessels (mandatory for tanker fleet assignments).

  • Strong technical knowledge of vessel operations, maintenance, and compliance.

  • Good leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.

  • Experience in staff management, including appraisals and KPIs.

  • Proactive, resourceful, and able to work under pressure.
