About this opportunity:
The HealthShare Architect is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic vision, design, and governance of the organization's HealthInformation Exchange (HIE) and interoperability platform, built on InterSystems HealthShare and IRIS for Health.
This individual ensures that the architecture is scalable, secure, and compliant with all healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FHIR mandates) while aligning with the broader enterprise IT strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Architectural Design
- Define the technical roadmap and future state architecture for the InterSystems HealthShare platform, including deployment models (on‑premise, cloud, or hybrid) and integration patterns.
- Lead the design and implementation of large‑scale, complex clinical data integrations and workflows using InterSystems IRIS/HealthConnect, focusing on high availability and performance.
- Serve as the top‑tier technical authority and consultant for all HealthShare components, including the Unified Care Record (UCR), Clinical Viewer, Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI), and Care Management.
- Ensure the HIE architecture effectively supports advanced features like population health analytics and AI/ML initiatives by harmonizing data in the SDA structure.
Technical Governance & Standards
- Establish and enforce development, configuration, and security standards for all HealthShare integrations and custom applications.
- Oversee and guide the development teams on best practices for ObjectScript, DTL, XSLT, and BPL development within the Interoperability Production environment.
- Define the strategy for implementing and migrating to modern interoperability standards, particularly HL7 FHIR, ensuring the platform is ready for regulatory and industry changes.
- Manage security configuration, including authentication, authorization, consent management, and data filtering/masking within the HealthShare platform to meet strict privacy requirements.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to HealthShare developers and analysts, participating in code and design reviews to maintain quality and performance.
- Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate complex clinical and business requirements into clear, robust technical specifications and architectural blueprints.
- Provide technical input for project estimations, resource planning, and risk assessments for HIE‑related projects.
- Act as the liaison between the application team, infrastructure team, and external HIE partners during complex deployment and troubleshooting efforts.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Healthcare IT, with at least 5 years specializing in architecture solutions using InterSystems HealthShare (or Ensemble/Cache).
- Deep, demonstrable expertise in the entire InterSystems technology stack, including HealthShare, IRIS for Health/HealthConnect, and Cache ObjectScript.
- Expert‑level knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, including HL7 V2, CDA/CCDA, IHE profiles, and comprehensive FHIR implementation.
- Proven experience in designing and tuning high‑volume, mission‑critical integration productions.
- Strong understanding of database management, data modeling, and performance optimization within the InterSystems ecosystem (Globals, indexes).
- Experience with architecture and deployment in major cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both executive leadership and hands‑on developers.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
- InterSystems Certified Architect or other relevant high‑level certifications.
- Experience integrating HealthShare with clinical systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Familiarity with data warehousing, reporting tools, and analytics platforms built upon HealthShare data (e.g., DeepSee, Health Insight).
- Experience with DevOps tools (e.g., Git, GitLab/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines) applied to InterSystems deployments.
