Overview
To provide essential support to the Nutrition and Food Science teachers in the preparation of ingredients, maintenance of kitchen laboratories, and ensuring a safe, hygienic environment for secondary school students to conduct practical lessons.
Responsibilities
- Lesson Preparation: Prepping food trays for student practical (i.e. washing, portioning ingredients and organizing ingredients/kitchen equipment etc.) based on the weekly curriculum.
- Kitchen Maintenance: Ensuring all NFS culinary laboratories, preparation room, refrigerators, and pantry are kept clean, organized, and compliant with NEA hygiene standards.
- Equipment Care: Regular checking of ovens, stoves and other kitchen appliances (i.e. microwave ovens, steamer ovens, blenders, electric cake mixers, electric steamers etc.) are in working order and reporting faults.
- Inventory Management: Assisting teachers in checking stock levels, receiving grocery deliveries, and ensuring the "First-In, First-Out" (FIFO) method is used for ingredients.
- Safety & Hygiene: Ensuring all dishcloths are laundered, floors are swept and mopped; kitchen surfaces are wiped clean with detergent and all kitchen waste are disposed of correctly at the end of each school day.
- Assistance During Exams: Providing logistical support and preparation of ingredients during national practical examinations (N-Level/O-Level NFS exams).
Requirements
- Education & Certification:
- Food Hygiene Certificate: Possesses a valid WSQ Food Safety Course Level 1 certificate (formerly Basic Food Hygiene).
- Language Skills: Able to understand and communicate well (to read recipes, ingredient labels and follow teacher instructions).
- Experience: Prior experience in a school canteen, catering, or a commercial kitchen is highly preferred.
- Physical & Technical Skills: Comfortable to stand for long periods, lift grocery crates, and perform manual cleaning tasks.
- Knife Skills: Proficient in various cutting skills (i.e. slicing, dicing, chopping, peeling etc.) and preparing various types of produce.
- Safety Conscious: A strong understanding of kitchen safety to prevent accidents in a room full of teenagers.
Location: Yishun
Salary: up to $15/hour
Working Hours: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays(i.e. 11:00AM – 4:00PM).
No weekends or Public Holidays (following the MOE school calendar).
