Job Summary

The Safety Officer is a key leadership role responsible for the overall strategic direction, management, and oversight of all health, safety, and environmental programs. This position ensures the organization not only complies with all relevant safety regulations but also fosters a proactive and robust safety culture. The Safety Officer acts as the primary expert and liaison for all safety-related matters, working to minimize risks, prevent incidents, and continuously improve safety performance across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Program Management
  • Develop, implement, and manage the company's comprehensive health and safety strategy, policies, and procedures.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of safety programs.
  • Allocate resources and manage the safety department budget to achieve strategic safety objectives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of advanced risk management strategies and hazard control programs.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise, mentor, and lead a team of safety professionals, including Safety Coordinators.
  • Provide expert guidance and support on a wide range of safety and health issues.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement through strong leadership and communication.
Compliance, Auditing & Reporting
  • Ensure all company operations are in strict compliance with local, national, and international health, safety, and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA).
  • Oversee internal and external safety audits, ensuring all findings are addressed and corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and lead all inspections and inquiries.
  • Prepare and present detailed safety performance reports to senior management, including trend analysis and strategic recommendations.
Incident Management
  • Direct and oversee all incident investigations, ensuring a thorough root cause analysis is conducted for all accidents and near-misses.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions and preventative measures based on investigation findings to prevent recurrence.
Training & Emergency Preparedness
  • Oversee the development and delivery of all safety training programs, ensuring content is relevant and effective.
  • Manage the company's emergency response plan, coordinating drills and ensuring all personnel are trained and prepared for various emergency scenarios.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field is required.
  • A Master's degree is highly desirable.
Experience
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in a dedicated safety role, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
  • Extensive experience in the construction or related heavy industry is required.
Certifications
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) certification is required.
  • OSHA 30 certification is required.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is required.
