Job description

The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.

The department is seeking a highly motivated team player to join the laboratory of Professor Lin-Fa Wang to research on various aspects of translational bat biology. This project investigates metabolic adaptations in a nectarivorous bat species evolutionarily adapted to a high sugar diet, to obtain translational insights into Type 2 diabetes and other metabolic diseases. Successful candidates will be part of a diverse team of bat researchers with national and international collaborations.

The candidate is expected to perform a variety of research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his designate. The main duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:-

• Support day-to-day experimental work and all aspects of the research project.
• Maintain accurate records, perform careful documentation and reporting of experimental results.
• Analyse, evaluate and interpret collected data.
• Contribute to figures, presentations, and manuscripts for publication.
• Contribute to project management, laboratory organisation and compliance.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry or other related fields.
• Prior research experience in organoid culture, confocal microscopy and/or single cell sequencing library preparation is preferred but not necessary.
• Possess strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
• A team player who is able to prioritise, multi-task and work collaboratively in a diverse workforce.
