Roles & Responsibilities
As a key member of the sanitation team in a fresh-chilled meal production facility, you will be responsible for performing essential cleaning and sanitizing tasks to uphold the highest standards of food hygiene and safety. This role serves as the first line of defense against cross-contamination in a ready-to-eat environment, ensures compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and provides a clean, safe foundation for all production activities. This entry-level position offers comprehensive on-the-job training and is an ideal starting point for a career in food manufacturing.
Core Responsibilities
1. Perform Basic Cleaning Tasks:
- · Sweep and scrub floors in production, packaging, and storage areas; clean trench drains and floor sinks.
- · Empty trash and waste receptacles throughout the facility, segregate waste according to procedures, and transport to designated disposal areas.
- · Clean walls, ceilings, light fixtures, and ancillary structures in non-production areas.
- · Clean and maintain employee restrooms, locker rooms, and break areas, and restock necessary supplies.
2. Assist with Equipment and Environmental Cleaning:
- · Clean exterior surfaces of equipment and non-food-contact surfaces of conveyors under supervision.
- · Wash transportation tools (e.g., carts, racks, pallets) and storage containers.
- · Clean production support zones such as staging and receiving areas.
3. Adhere to Chemical Safety and Procedures:
- · Precisely follow instructions for diluting and using various cleaners, sanitizers, and disinfectants.
- · Store chemicals safely with clear labeling and immediately report any spills or leaks.
- · Consistently wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks.
4. Uphold Food Safety and Compliance:
- · Strictly follow personal hygiene protocols and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- · Adhere to "clean-to-dirty" workflow and correctly use color-coded tools to prevent cross-contamination.
- · Promptly report any food safety concerns (e.g., pest sightings, equipment damage, potential contamination risks).
5. Complete Documentation and Communication:
- · Accurately complete basic cleaning checklists and task logs.
- · Clearly communicate task completion and any issues encountered to the supervisor.
- · Participate in all required training for safety, sanitation, and operational procedures.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- No mandatory education or prior work experience required. Beginners are welcome.
- Previous experience in cleaning, janitorial services, or kitchen stewarding is preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to understand and follow simple written and verbal instructions.
- Physical stamina to perform demanding work in cold, wet, and humid environments.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, punctual, and a good team player.
- Basic awareness of chemical safety and slip/fall hazards in wet environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and frequently bend/kneel.
- Capable of regularly lifting 25-40 lbs (e.g., chemical containers, trash bags).
- Ability to operate heavy cleaning equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers).
Work Environment & Schedule
- Environment: Primarily works in cold (38-45°F / 3-7°C), damp production areas. Conditions include wet floors, potential exposure to cleaning chemicals, and occasional noise.
- Schedule: Typically involves evening, night, weekend, or early morning shifts to accommodate production cleaning windows. Specific schedules are based on operational needs.
