MTS Vision & Software Control Engineer
Description -
The Measurement and Technology Solutions (MTS) group supporting worldwide thermal ink jet platform development is adding a Vision & Software Control Engineer to the team. The MTS VISTA group develops image capture and image evaluation solutions across the breadth of print - from the home and office to high-speed web press packaging and publishing, to textiles and 3D printing. We are looking for a collaborative and responsive engineer to join the team and develop vision systems and image evaluation algorithms that develops code for industrial test equipment, motion controllers, sensors, and vision systems. They integrate diverse systems from different vendors using network communications protocols and industry-standard field busses. Works with large legacy codebases in C#, knowledge of Python a plus. Works on problems at both detail and system integration level. May act as a leader of small, ad-hoc project teams for specific solutions. Ability to handle most unique situations. May seek advice to make decisions on complex business issues.
Core job description
- Enable and support R&D and manufacturing vision systems to evaluate print quality
- Develop image evaluation solutions to quantify quality of printed content
- Develop technical expertise on in-house image evaluation software and hardware
- Improve algorithm on image processing
- Partner with other teams and groups to develop, validate, and integrate new solutions
- Develop and improve image evaluation processes and capabilities to support next generation product development
- Provide image evaluation expertise to machine vision system design projects Work environment is a hybrid of remote and in-person, with regular on-site integration work expected

- Contribute to end-to-end vision system design in the areas of cameras, scanners, optics, color science, lighting, hardware, software, algorithms, etc. in collaboration with the team and our partners
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor, Masters, or PhD in engineering/physics science degree, computer science, computer engineering, or with relevant software experience
- C++, MATLAB, Python, C#, Java or other programming coursework and/or experience, and understanding of good coding practices
- Understanding of motion control and electric motor concepts
- Understanding and familiarity with common process control sensors: Digital and analog inputsand outputs
- Experience with machine vision hardware components such as cameras, lighting, and optics
- Experience with hardware and software integration and troubleshooting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently in a highly complex software environment
- Ability to work & effectively interact with team members from other disciplines, projects, organizations, cultures & companies
- Resourcefulness, creativity, and flexibility Skills in analytical decision-making, troubleshooting, and problem-solving
- Ability to exercise engineering judgment and work within defined policies and practices as needed
- Able to determine best methods for accomplishing work and achieving deliverables

Desired Qualifications
- Image science, image analysis, machine vision, machine learning, or signal processing coursework or experience
- Familiarity with MFC, WinForms, WPF, STL, .NET, Visual Studio IDE, Smart Git (or Git) a plus
- Experience with machine vision hardware components such as cameras, lighting, and optics
- Experience with hardware and software integration and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with Thermal InkJet writing systems and/or previous experience with printing technologies
