Job Description

We are seeking a dependable, hands‑on Laboratory Executive to manage day‑to‑day laboratory operations and support teaching activities. This role is central to ensuring smooth departmental functions across education, safety, core facilities, infrastructure, IT, and events. You will work closely with faculty, lab teams, and administrative staff to uphold safety standards, deliver high‑quality teaching support, and maintain reliable operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Education Support
    • Coordinate course administration end‑to‑end, including timetables, venues, materials, tutor/TA onboarding, and assessment logistics.
    • Support examinations (setup, invigilation logistics, incident management, and script handling).
    • Prepare and oversee practical sessions, provide small‑group technical guidance, and training refreshers for TAs and lab staff.
    • Assist with risk assessments and SOPs for practicals, field trips, and CET activities.
  • Safety Management
    • Serve as Department Safety Coordinator and primary liaison with NUS safety offices.
    • Lead safety initiatives: committee meetings, inspections, audits, drills, and management reviews.
    • Maintain the Department Safety & Health Management System, including SOPs, risk assessments, training records, and incident reporting.
    • Manage regulated chemical inventories, permits/licences, MAQ oversight, LMMS/AIMS, and coordinate security enhancements with campus units.
    • Provide safety inductions and training; take on safety roles (e.g., Fire Warden, First Aider, Spill Responder).
  • Core Facilities, Infrastructure, and Fixed Assets
    • Oversee common equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, consumables, and vendor coordination.
    • Develop and review equipment SOPs and risk assessments; train users on proper equipment use.
    • Plan and optimise lab space; administer facility booking access for trained users.
    • Coordinate fixed asset tagging and verification; liaise with campus units on repairs and maintenance.
    • Support autoclave operations and promote sustainable lab practices.
  • IT, Events & Publicity
    • Provide technical support for in‑person, online, and hybrid seminars and conferences.
    • Organise academic events and workshops, including logistics, budgets, and speaker arrangements.
    • Assist with risk assessments and SOPs for events; support departmental social and festive activities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences or a related field.
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience in safety management or course administration.
  • Proficient in general laboratory techniques and MS Office.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Proven ability to solve problems independently and work well in a team.
  • Fluent in English.
  • A reliable self‑starter with a positive attitude and willingness to learn new techniques and software.
  • Someone who takes ownership of safety and operational excellence, and enjoys supporting teaching and research.
