Since 2022, the Medical and Professional Affairs department has expanded to engage Eye Care Professionals, Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, and dispensing eye‑care professionals by communicating scientific and evidence‑based information from research and publications, participating in congresses, scientific meetings, as well as actively collaborating with external experts and partnering with key professional organisations.

We are now seeking an experienced and visionary Medical & Professional Affairs Director for the SEAK region to strengthen our medical leadership, expand our scientific footprint, and support the commercial success of our products and innovations.

Position Overview

The Medical & Professional Affairs Director – SEAK is responsible for defining and executing the Medical and Professional Affairs strategy across the region, in alignment with EssilorLuxottica’s global strategy. This includes leadership across Myopia Management, Presbyopia, Light Management, Care solutions, Wearables, Medical Technologies and Clinical Instruments.

This role serves as the professional and scientific face of EssilorLuxottica in SEAK, building strong partnerships with independent medical experts, academia, professional associations, ophthalmologists, optometrists, orthoptists and paediatricians. You will provide medical and scientific expertise across marketing, sales, retail, and brand teams while ensuring the highest standards of scientific evidence, professional credibility, and regulatory compliance.

This is a highly cross‑functional leadership role, requiring collaboration with global, regional and markets stakeholders, strategic influence, and the ability to translate scientific insights into impactful medical and business outcomes.

Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Medical Strategy Development
  • Develop and execute the Medical & Professional Affairs strategy for the SEAK region in alignment with EssilorLuxottica’s global medical strategy and business objectives.
  • Strengthen the role of Medical Technologies and Medical Affairs within the professional community and internal business stakeholders to support vision care optical categories, wearables, and medical innovations.
  • Integrate medical strategy with brand, marketing, sales, and category strategies to accelerate business impact.
  • Lead the implementation of the Vision Care Optical Categories strategy, with a focus on Essilor® Stellest® and Myopia Management programs from prescription to dispensing and Presbyopia.
2. Scientific Leadership & Subject Matter Expertise
  • Serve as the scientific expert in eye health, vision care, eye‑care management concepts.
  • Lead medical and scientific data dissemination, share of voice, and expert‑driven insights to support commercial success.
  • Provide key medical inputs for business planning and go‑to‑market strategies.
  • Ensure scientific credibility and alignment with clinical best practices across SEAK markets.
3. Professional Engagement & External Relations
  • Represent EssilorLuxottica as the primary medical and professional interface in the SEAK region.
  • Identify, engage, and develop relationships with external experts, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, academia, and professional institutions and associations.
  • Support professional relations with optometrists, ophthalmologists, orthoptists, and paediatricians.
  • Develop the network of external experts, organise and lead Advisory Boards, Ficus Groups and Expert forums.
4. Professional Events, Congresses & Scientific Presence
  • Define priorities and develop the plan for EssilorLuxottica’s participation in regional professional congresses.
  • In partnership with Business and Marketing teams, define the event plan for Optometry and Ophthalmology across SEAK.
  • Represent the company at professional events, conferences, and congresses to elevate EssilorLuxottica’s scientific voice.
5. Medical Education
  • Develop and localise global medical education programs and scientific training for internal teams, eye‑care practitioners, and academic partners.
  • Ensure alignment with global medical education and evidence‑based practices.
  • Elevate the scientific competence of internal teams and external practitioners.
6. Medical Communications & Materials
  • Oversee localisation of global medical packs while ensuring compliance with SEAK regulations and clinical practices.
  • Identify and collaborate with reference ophthalmologists and external experts for validation and endorsement of materials.
  • Lead internal and external communication across:
    • PR plans dedicated to the medical channel (organic and paid)
    • Medical activity amplification for the optical channel
    • Programs to expand medical activities within retail and business branches
7. Results Tracking & Performance Monitoring
  • Develop and implement medical activity tracking systems.
  • Measure impact and propose corrective actions or strategic adjustments when needed.Consolidate regional medical metrics and insights for leadership decision‑making.
8. Compliance & Medical Governance
  • Ensure all medical and professional activities comply with regional laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Serve as the gatekeeper of medical accuracy, scientific rigor, and compliance in all SEAK markets.
  • Guide teams to uphold clinical standards and responsible interactions with healthcare professionals.
  • Monitor clinical and scientific developments across SEAK to ensure alignment with best practices.
  • Track innovations in digital technologies relevant to medical and professional affairs.
  • Monitor competitive medical activities to maintain EssilorLuxottica’s leadership position.
  • Encourage continuous learning and scientific updates within the team.
10. Team Leadership & Cross‑Functional Coordination
  • Lead, develop, and manage the Medical & Professional Affairs teams across SEAK.
  • Facilitate collaboration across medical, marketing, sales, legal, regulatory, and global teams.
Requirements
Technical Skills & Experience
  • MD, Bachelor/Master degree in Optics, Optometry, Vision Science, PhD (MBA is a plus).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the eye‑care or medical device sector.
  • Strong experience in eye‑care, medical technologies, pharma companies.
  • Demonstrated capability in external stakeholders engagement, professional relations, and medical education.
