About the job Head of Crew Training (Maritime)

We are looking for an experienced and visionary Head of Crew Training for a well-established and international shipowner company based in Singapore. This senior leadership role will drive the companys global maritime training strategy and ensure the development of a future-ready seafaring and shore-based workforce. The ideal candidate would have extensive maritime training and operational experience, including exposure to LNG dual-fuel vessels.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Training Development
  • Define and lead the companys long-term maritime training vision across Deck, Engine, and Catering disciplines.
  • Design structured career progression pathways and officer development programs.
  • Oversee cadet training initiatives in close collaboration with the crewing function.
  • Implement in-house and simulator-based training programs, incorporating digital platforms, VR/AR, and e-learning.
  • Collaborate with OEMs, shipyards, and training providers for LNG dual-fuel, engine, and compliance training (IGF Code, STCW).
  • Lead adoption of innovative training tools to enhance learning effectiveness.
  • Ensure Environmental Compliance Plan (ECP) training is conducted and documented.
Operational Oversight & Compliance
  • Ensure alignment of all training with STCW, MLC 2006, SOLAS, MARPOL, and flag state requirements.
  • Oversee external training providers, centers, and regulatory audits.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (QSS, Technical, Crewing) to address audit gaps through training.
  • Verify and maintain statutory certification compliance for all seafarers.
  • Support operational readiness for new vessel deployments and regional expansions.
Budget & Resource Management
  • Develop and manage the department's training budget effectively.
  • Review and approve training-related financials and ensure cost optimization of training vendors and programs.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
  • Foster strong ties with maritime academies, manning agencies, and regulatory bodies.
  • Partner with key OEMs and training institutions to integrate manufacturer-specific modules.
  • Represent the company in external forums to promote maritime training excellence.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow the Training Department, ensuring high performance and continuous professional development.
  • Guide internal and external trainers/ assessors to uphold training standards.
  • Create structured training roadmaps for seafarers and technical staff.
Must-Have Qualifications
  • Master Mariner (COC Class 1) or Chief Engineer (COC Class 1)with unlimited FG certification.
  • Degree in Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong background in maritime training, ship management, and crew development.
Preferred Experience
  • Former Master or Chief Engineer onboard ocean-going vessels (LNG experience a plus).
  • Prior roles as Crew Manager, Training Manager, or Crew Training Manager.
  • Familiarity with LNG Dual-Fuel training, simulator learning, and modern competency frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of maritime regulations including STCW, MLC 2006, SOLAS, MARPOL, IGF Code.
  • Experience in budget management and coordination with vendors or training institutions.
