Job Summary
The Director of Global Business Development will lead strategic business development and licensing initiatives across diversified global markets. This role encompasses the identification, evaluation, and execution of growth opportunities including brand and portfolio acquisitions, commercialization partnerships, licensing agreements and joint ventures, all aligned with the company’s strategic objectives. The position requires a high degree of independence, collaboration across cross-functional and cross-cultural teams, strong network within the regional and global healthcare industry and strong leadership in both strategic and operational aspects of business development.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Market Expansion
- Develop SciGen’s Global BD strategy taking an outside-in view of the operating market, competitive landscape and our core value proposition.
- Identify and evaluate new global market opportunities and develop market entry strategies in alignment with the company’s long-term goals.
- Assess and recommend improvements to existing business models in selected international markets.
- Map the market landscape with specific focus towards mature/late stage assets from big pharma looking to reallocate resources towards new launches
Business Development & Alliance Management
- Lead business development strategies including target identification, deal structuring, negotiations, and execution for brand acquisitions, in-distribution partnerships and licensing deals.
- Conduct commercial due diligence and assess target alignment with company strategy.
- Drive the in-licensing and out-licensing of branded and generic products by evaluating product potential and market fit.
- Establish and lead strong Alliance Management Practices covering the overall deal landscape ensuring timely delivery of deal milestones viz., product approvals, timely launches, resource allocation etc.
Innovation & Portfolio Strategy
- Monitor trends in pharmaceuticals, biotech, and adjacent sectors to proactively recommend new business or innovation opportunities.
- Support portfolio development by identifying complementary assets or platforms that align with strategic growth initiatives.
Cross-Functional and Cultural Collaboration
- Collaborate with regional leaders and cross-functional teams (e.g., Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Finance, Legal, Supply Chain) to ensure alignment and effective execution of business development plans.
- Foster strong relationships and lead cross-cultural teams to execute global initiatives effectively.
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance
- Maintain continuous communication with key internal and external stakeholders to evaluate and select optimal partnership and deal structures.
- Present business cases and strategic updates to executive leadership and board members.
- Establish and enforce governance frameworks for deal approvals, risk management, and post-deal performance monitoring.
Competitive Intelligence & Market Monitoring
- Monitor global market trends, healthcare policy changes, regulatory shifts, and competitive activities.
- Analyze market dynamics, voice of medical professionals, and evolving sales practices to inform strategic direction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Science, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of commercial experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 8-10 years direct experience of driving global business development and licensing activities.
- Demonstrated success in leading complex deals and partnerships across multiple geographies.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and financial modeling skills.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- High cultural intelligence with proven ability to lead and collaborate in diverse, international environments.
- Self-starter with a hands-on approach and a strong "can-do" attitude.
