Job description

    As a Consultant in Microbiology within the Microbiology & Infection Control department, your primary responsibility will be to oversee the operations of the Microbiology Laboratory. You will play a crucial role in supervising and ensuring the accurate and timely processing of microbiology specimens, as well as the reporting of results. Additionally, you will take on the role of Hospital Infection Control Lead, heading the Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC) to ensure the implementation of infection control protocols in accordance with NABH/NABL guidelines.Your duties will extend to conducting surveillance and audits for infection control across all hospital departments, including ICUs, OTs, and wards. Leading the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (AMSP) will be another key aspect of your role, where you will monitor and promote the rational use of antibiotics to combat antimicrobial resistance.You will be responsible for organizing training sessions for medical professionals and support staff on infection prevention, biomedical waste handling, and hand hygiene practices. Your role will also involve ensuring compliance with NABH/NABL standards in all microbiology lab functions and infection control protocols.Conducting environmental and surface surveillance, as well as leading outbreak investigations and implementing control measures in cases of hospital-acquired infection outbreaks, will be part of your routine activities. Additionally, maintaining detailed documentation of infection control activities, rates of hospital-acquired infections, antibiograms, and surveillance data will be essential.Collaboration with various hospital departments such as Pathology, Biochemistry, ICU, OT, and Nursing to integrate infection control practices into patient care will be a key aspect of your role. Furthermore, you will be expected to initiate and participate in quality improvement projects related to microbiology and infection control.The ideal candidate for this position should have a minimum of 3 years of post-MD experience in a hospital setting, possess a strong understanding of NABH/NABL guidelines and hospital infection control practices, and demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively train and lead teams.This is a full-time or part-time permanent position that includes benefits such as health insurance and Provident Fund.
