Job description
Job Purpose

Responsible for translating narrative descriptions of diseases, injuries and procedures into codes, based on a pre-defined Casemix classification system.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Primary Responsibilities and Duties (80%)

    • To accurately abstract relevant data and translate the principal diagnosis, secondary diagnoses and surgery/procedures of all inpatient and day surgery discharges into ICD 9 CM codes from discharge summary/case notes/operation reports/histology reports in accordance with the national and hospital coding standards within the stipulated time frame for subvention.

    • To interact closely with clinicians for clarifications / confirmation / feedback on documentation of principal diagnosis, secondary diagnosis and surgery/procedure/treatment if necessary that may affect coding accuracy and correct subvention.

    • To keep abreast of latest coding standards and update coding knowledge/coding skills.

    • To work independently and act as a mentor to junior coders

  • Secondary Responsibilities and Duties (20%)

    • To manage and track daily uncoded/coders workload report

    • To work closely with the supervisor so as to continuously improve the current work processes in Casemix office

    • Participate in quality assurance programs including internal audit programmes

    • Senior Coders to be involved in training of new coders/internal audits

    • Able to understand departmental operational workflow and resolve any issues independently

    • Carry out any other projects and duties as assigned

Job Specification

Qualification: Basic Medical Degree or State Registered Nurse qualification
