Job Title: Carpenter (Construction)

Reports To: Foreman / Site Superintendent / Project Manager
Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Carpenter to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made from wood, plywood, and other materials, according to specifications and building codes. This role requires precision, a strong understanding of construction methods, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities (Job Description):
- Layout and Framing: Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and building plans to determine project dimensions and materials required. Perform layout and construct building frameworks, including walls, floors, roofs, and decks (rough carpentry).
- Installation: Install structural components such as headers, joists, trusses, and sheathing. Install finished items including doors, windows, stairs, molding, trim, cabinetry, and hardware (finish carpentry).
- Construction and Repair: Build and set forms for pouring concrete. Construct, assemble, and dismantle scaffolding and temporary structures. Repair or renovate existing wooden structures and fixtures.
- Material Handling: Measure, mark, cut, shape, and assemble materials (wood, wood substitutes, drywall, etc.). Order and select appropriate materials for the job.
- Tool Operation: Safely operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment essential to carpentry (e.g., saws, drills, sanders, routers, levels, nail guns).
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all work complies with local building codes, regulations, and safety standards (e.g., OSHA guidelines). Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work site.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other tradespeople (electricians, plumbers), foremen, and supervisors to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.
- Inspection: Inspect work upon completion to ensure it meets quality standards and project specifications.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience as a carpenter in the construction industry. Strong portfolio demonstrating skills in both rough and finish carpentry.
- Skills & Knowledge: Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings; extensive knowledge of carpentry techniques, methods, tools, and materials; understanding of building codes and safety regulations; excellent mathematical skills for accurate measuring and calculation.
- Physical & Personal Attributes: Physically fit with good stamina; ability to lift heavy materials, climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions; strong attention to detail, precision, and a commitment to quality craftsmanship; ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team; good problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude; excellent time management skills to meet project deadlines.
- Certifications (Preferred but not always mandatory): Completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program or vocational training is highly desirable; valid driver's license and reliable transportation; OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour safety certification is a plus.
Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily on construction sites, which involve exposure to weather, loud noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
