Job description

Job Purpose

The Cargo Officer is responsible for the safe, accurate, and compliant execution of cargo operations onboard the vessel, including loading, discharging, and ex-bunker delivery activities. The role ensures product quality and quantity are safeguarded, custody control procedures are properly implemented, and all cargo-related documentation and inventory records are accurately maintained in accordance with company procedures and applicable maritime regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and executing cargo loading, discharging, and ex-bunker delivery operations
  • Monitor cargo quantity, condition, stowage, and ballast operations to ensure safety, accuracy, and operational efficiency
  • Conduct cargo tank inspections before and after cargo operations
  • Manage cargo operations and maintain all related documentation accurately and in a timely manner
  • Safeguard product quality and quantity throughout cargo handling, storage, and delivery
  • Ensure all cargo activities are carried out in compliance with Company Work Instructions and applicable safety, environmental, and maritime regulations, including ISM Code, MARPOL, and SS 648:2024, where applicable
  • Implement and maintain proper custody control procedures for cargo storage onboard bunker tankers and all cargo movements
  • Maintain accurate and timely inventory records, including stock movement logbooks and daily Remaining On Board (ROB) reports
  • Coordinate with the Master, Chief Officer, terminal representatives, port authorities, and other relevant stakeholders during cargo operations
  • Promptly report any cargo discrepancies, spillages, incidents, customer complaints, or disputes to the Operations Manager and support onsite investigations
  • Ensure proper use of cargo handling equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Perform any other ad-hoc duties as assigned by management
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Diploma in Maritime Studies or a related field
  • Valid certification in bunker and cargo operations, including:
    • Basic SS 600:2022 and SS 648:2024 Course Certificate
    • Advanced SS 600:2022 and SS 648:2024 Course Certificate
    • And other relevant certificate required by MPA and or IBIA to stay on board the Barge Tanker during Cargo Operation, include but not limited to have Valid Annual Medical Check Up approved by MPA.
  • Prior experience in cargo handling operations onboard tanker or bunker vessels is preferred
  • Good knowledge of cargo handling procedures, custody control, and applicable safety and maritime regulations
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • High attention to detail with strong safety awareness
