Assistant Project Manager – Ship Repair (Marine Shipyard)
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination
- Assist the Project Manager in planning, organizing, and executing ship repair and refit projects.
- Coordinated daily work activities with production supervisors, foremen, and craft teams.
- Track project schedules, milestones, labour hours, and material usage.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain project files including work specifications, change orders, drawings, and progress reports.
- Assist in preparing daily/weekly status updates for management and customers.
- Document delays, scope changes, and risks; support the creation of corrective action plans.
Budget & Cost Control
- Assist in monitoring project budgets, cost forecasts, and expenditures.
- Track and validate timecards, material charges, and subcontractor invoices.
- Support the preparation of cost estimates and change order proposals.
Customer & Stakeholder Communication
- Assist with customer walk-throughs, progress meetings, and inspections.
- Communicate project updates, concerns, and technical inquiries professionally and promptly.
- Coordinate with class surveyors, OEM reps, and other regulatory personnel as needed.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with shipyard safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in job hazard analyses, toolbox meetings, and safety inspections.
- Promote a safety-first culture across all project teams.
Quality Assurance
- Assist in verifying that work meets required specifications, standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Support testing, inspections, and trials as required for project acceptance.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Maritime Studies, Project Management, or related field; or equivalent shipyard experience.
- 2+ years of experience in ship repair, marine engineering, or industrial project coordination.
- Strong understanding of ship systems, marine structures, dry-docking, or industrial repair processes.
- Proficient with project management tools (MS Project, Excel, scheduling or ERP systems).
- Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, labour-intensive shipyard environment.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work aboard vessels, in shipyard environments, and around heavy machinery.
- Must be able to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and stand for extended periods as needed.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and industrial hazards (with proper PPE).
