Job Description

The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, offers a unique and adventurous 21st century Asian environment in which we train and educate performers, composers, producers and recording engineers to take advantage of future professional and artistic opportunities both in Singapore and in the world. The Conservatory is distinctively international in terms of its faculty, student population and artistic outlook. Our mission is to be a focal point for musical activity, artistic development and research, for Singapore, the Asia‑Pacific region, and beyond.

Position

Head of Vocal Studies. This is a full‑time position. The successful candidate will be an outstanding vocalist and/or collaborative musician, with significant performance and leadership experience, and the capacity to provide a vision for the development of vocal studies at the Conservatory.

Responsibilities and Expectations

Participation in the artistic life of Singapore and the region is also expected. In addition to maintaining a dynamic studio, the candidate will also be active in teaching and/or supervising adjunct faculty in the areas of opera workshop, diction, literature, pedagogy and language instruction in German, French and Italian, engaging in community and outreach activities, and recruiting students to the Conservatory through both national and international involvement at various levels, including targeted pre‑tertiary programmes and similar organisations throughout the region.

Requirements for Interested Applicants Include
  • Academic qualifications in areas relevant to conservatory training.
  • Teaching experience in a conservatory or other tertiary‑level institutions focused on professional training in areas of music including performance, pedagogy, and artistic research.
  • An exceptional performer as well as a dedicated teacher with a proven track record of leadership and teaching at an elite performance level.
  • Strong leadership, communication, collaborative and organisational skills.
  • Evidence of artistic research activity in music in areas such as performance and pedagogy.
  • Works well in a collaborative and innovative conservatory environment.

Rank/Salary: Practice‑track position at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher, with benefits package commensurate with qualifications and experience.
