Overview

We are working with a leading healthcare institution seeking a strategic and experienced Assistant Director to oversee and drive pathology operations. This leadership role involves managing centralisation initiatives, modernising laboratory infrastructure, championing digital innovation, and enhancing service quality and operational efficiency across a multi-site clinical environment.

Responsibilities

Strategic Centralisation of Laboratory Services

  • Lead the harmonisation and centralisation of Anatomic Pathology (AP) services across multiple facilities.
  • Standardise workflows, consolidate caseloads, and streamline resource allocation to improve efficiency and service excellence.
  • Support the development and execution of sustainable business models for pathology service integration.

Infrastructure Expansion & Service Innovation

  • Manage the planning and execution of laboratory renovation and expansion projects.
  • Coordinate facility upgrades, space planning, vendor management, and project timelines to meet evolving clinical demands.
  • Collaborate with clinical leads to identify and implement service enhancements and niche capabilities.

Digital Transformation & Technology Adoption

  • Drive the implementation of Digital Pathology, AI, RPA, and next-generation tools to improve diagnostic turnaround time and lab productivity.
  • Support feasibility studies and pilot initiatives related to automation, AI-enabled diagnostics, and workflow innovations.

Financial & Resource Oversight

  • Review department financials, resource utilisation, and cost models to ensure sustainable operations.
  • Analyse trends and metrics to guide charge revisions, budget planning, and operational investments.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimisation and high-value care delivery.

Quality, Governance & Compliance

  • Support inter-laboratory audits, accreditation readiness, and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Monitor quality indicators and harmonise lab practices across entities.
  • Ensure biosafety standards and operational excellence are upheld across all facilities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline; advanced degrees in healthcare management, science, or business are advantageous.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in laboratory operations, healthcare administration, or pathology services.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, facility projects, or service transformation.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost-efficiency planning.
  • Familiarity with biosafety and laboratory regulatory frameworks is preferred.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Proactive, analytical, and outcome-driven, with a passion for delivering better patient care through operational excellence.
