Job description
OVERVIEW

The Accountant supports the Finance Manager in the day-to-day accounting and finance functions of the organisation. This role covers key areas including financial accounting, reporting, budgeting support, statutory and internal audits, and compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Accounting and Reporting
  • Maintain the accounting system and related subsystems, ensuring accurate and complete data transfer from source systems
  • Prepare, review and support accounting processes for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger and Fixed Assets in accordance with accounting standards and principles
  • Apply appropriate accounting treatments to meet statutory and internal reporting requirements
  • Perform monthly closing activities, GST returns and preparation of financial statements
Management Accounting and Budgeting Support
  • Analyse financial performance and prepare reports highlighting key findings and trends
  • Support the annual budget preparation process and ongoing budget monitoring
  • Perform variance analysis and provide insights to support departmental and HQ budget control
Audit Coordination
  • Act as a key liaison with external and internal auditors on audit-related matters
  • Support the annual statutory audit process to ensure timely and compliant completion
  • Assist in coordinating internal audits to review systems, internal controls and compliance, and support implementation of recommended improvements
Financial Policies, Controls and Risk Management
  • Assist in identifying and assessing operational and financial risks
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of internal controls, policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with organisational policies, accounting standards and regulatory requirements
Stakeholder and External Liaison
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders on operational and financial matters
  • Liaise with statutory bodies and external consultants on accounting, tax and compliance matters
  • Support banking-related activities, including bank reconciliations and online banking administration
Systems and Project Support
  • Participate in the evaluation, implementation and enhancement of accounting systems and subsystems
  • Support user training and system documentation where required
Others
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager
REQUIREMENTS
Technical Competencies
  • Degree in Finance, Accountancy or equivalent
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Strong hands-on working knowledge of accounting systems and processes
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience maintaining full sets of accounts and financial reporting
General Competencies
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting standards and GST regulations
  • Meticulous, organised and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong hands-on, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills to synthesise and present financial information clearly
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in written and spoken English
Preferred Qualifications / Experience
  • ACCA or CA qualification
  • Experience in Charity Fund Accounting
