The Senior MEP Design Engineer is responsible for the technical review, coordination, and development of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) designs throughout the project lifecycle. The role ensures that MEP designs are technically compliant, coordinated, constructible, and aligned with project specifications, client requirements, applicable codes, and approved design intent. The position works closely with consultants, BIM teams, construction teams, subcontractors, and other engineering disciplines to resolve design issues, optimize solutions, and support successful project execution.

The Senior MEP Design Engineer is responsible for the technical review, coordination, and development of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) designs throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Review and coordinate Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and ELV designs in accordance with project requirements.
- Review IFC drawings, design drawings, specifications, calculations, schedules, and other MEP technical documentation.
- Develop, review, and coordinate MEP shop drawings and technical submissions prior to construction.
- Ensure MEP designs comply with approved design intent, project specifications, applicable Saudi regulations, and international codes and standards.
- Perform detailed multidisciplinary coordination between MEP, Architectural, Structural, Civil, Façade, Landscape, and specialist systems.
- Identify design clashes, discrepancies, missing information, and constructability issues and coordinate appropriate technical solutions.
- Prepare, review, and follow up RFIs, technical queries, design clarifications, and design change requests.
- Review MEP subcontractor and specialist supplier technical submissions, calculations, drawings, and proposed systems.
- Review material submittals and technical data to ensure compliance with design and project requirements.
- Coordinate with BIM teams for clash detection, model coordination, and implementation of approved technical solutions.
- Review MEP equipment layouts, plant rooms, service routes, shafts, risers, ceiling coordination, and maintenance/access requirements.
- Review technical calculations including equipment sizing, electrical loads, voltage drops, HVAC loads, hydraulic calculations, and other MEP calculations as applicable.
- Coordinate interfaces between MEP systems and architectural and structural elements to ensure constructability.
- Provide technical support to construction teams in resolving MEP design and site-related technical issues.
- Coordinate with consultants, designers, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain required technical approvals.
- Participate in design workshops, technical meetings, coordination meetings, and value engineering sessions.
- Support Value Engineering (VE) exercises by proposing technically compliant and cost-effective alternatives.
- Review design changes and assess their impact on other disciplines, construction activities, and project requirements.
- Ensure approved design changes and technical resolutions are properly incorporated into drawings and BIM models.
- Monitor the status of MEP technical submissions, RFIs, shop drawings, and design approvals.
- Support procurement teams with technical evaluations and clarification of MEP equipment and material requirements.
- Support testing and commissioning teams by providing design information and resolving technical issues.
- Review as-built drawings, O&M manuals, technical documentation, and final handover submissions.
- Maintain accurate records of technical decisions, design changes, approvals, and correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, client requirements, Saudi Building Code, and applicable international standards.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the Technical Manager, MEP Technical Manager, or Technical Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
- Minimum 8–12 years of relevant MEP engineering experience, with strong exposure to design review and technical coordination.
- Previous experience within the Technical Department of a Main Contractor is highly preferred.
- Strong experience on large-scale construction, mixed-use, commercial, hospitality, entertainment, sports, infrastructure, or mega projects.
- Strong multidisciplinary knowledge across HVAC, Plumbing, Drainage, Firefighting, Electrical, ELV, and associated MEP systems.
- Strong experience reviewing IFC drawings, shop drawings, calculations, specifications, RFIs, technical submittals, and design changes.
- Proven experience in MEP design coordination and resolving complex multidisciplinary clashes.
- Strong understanding of constructability and the relationship between design and site execution.
- Experience coordinating with consultants, designers, BIM teams, specialist subcontractors, and construction teams.
- Familiarity with SBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, SMACNA, IEC, NEC, and other applicable MEP codes and standards.
- Knowledge of Saudi authority requirements applicable to MEP systems is preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Strong working knowledge of Revit MEP, Navisworks, and BIM coordination processes is highly preferred.
- Previous experience in Saudi Arabia or GCC countries is preferred.
- Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) registration or eligibility is required for candidates working in Saudi Arabia.
