Role Context The ICT Lead Engineer will provide technical direction for the digital and communications infrastructure that supports day-to-day airport operations. The position connects core ICT networks with specialist aviation systems, security platforms, smart airport technologies, telecommunications services, and operational technology environments. The role carries responsibility for ensuring that ICT solutions are resilient, scalable, secure, maintainable, and ready for future expansion. By coordinating designers, contractors, vendors, airport stakeholders, and engineering disciplines, the ICT Lead Engineer will help reduce interface risks, maintain technical compliance, and support reliable delivery from design through final handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead ICT engineering activities across the airport development program and establish clear technical priorities for design and implementation.
- Provide direction to ICT engineers, consultants, contractors, designers, and specialist technology vendors.
- Develop and maintain ICT review procedures, technical standards, engineering requirements, and governance controls.
- Review technical reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, design submissions, and engineering documentation for ICT systems.
- Assess ICT solutions serving passenger terminals, concourses, cargo facilities, operational buildings, control areas, maintenance facilities, and airport support infrastructure.
- Verify compliance with client requirements, project specifications, international standards, and applicable airport technology criteria.
- Review structured cabling infrastructure covering copper and fiber optic networks.
- Evaluate LAN, WAN, wireless, telecommunications, data center, server room, and network connectivity designs.
- Examine network architecture for capacity, resilience, redundancy, scalability, and future technology expansion.
- Coordinate integration between ICT infrastructure and Airport Operational Database systems.
- Support interfaces with Flight Information Display Systems, Common Use Passenger Processing Systems, Common Use Self-Service platforms, and Baggage Handling Systems.
- Coordinate ICT connectivity requirements for CCTV, access control, security platforms, surveillance systems, and Building Management Systems.
- Support smart airport programs, digital transformation initiatives, and technology-enabled operational improvements.
- Review ICT design interfaces against cybersecurity requirements and established industry frameworks.
- Coordinate secure network architecture, access control, data protection, and operational technology security requirements.
- Review cybersecurity submissions and technical compliance documentation affecting ICT infrastructure.
- Provide engineering support throughout installation, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Review contractor shop drawings, material submissions, method statements, technical queries, and requests for information.
- Conduct site inspections to confirm that ICT installations follow approved designs and project specifications.
- Resolve technical conflicts that could affect ICT implementation, systems integration commissioning, or operational readiness.
- Witness fiber optic testing, network testing, performance verification, and integrated systems testing.
- Coordinate directly with the client, airport authorities, telecommunications providers, consultants, contractors, and technology vendors.
- Participate in design reviews, technical workshops, integration meetings, and authority coordination sessions.
- Monitor contractor compliance with approved installation procedures, quality requirements, and engineering standards.
- Review testing records, commissioning documentation, technical reports, and system acceptance information.
- Identify non-compliance and support corrective action before deficiencies affect handover or operational performance.
- Prepare engineering assessments, design review comments, technical recommendations, and ICT progress reports.
- Maintain traceable records covering design approvals, engineering decisions, technical observations, and interface resolutions.
- Report ICT progress, technical risks, emerging constraints, and critical decisions to project management.
- Support preparation of operating manuals, asset registers, record documentation, and final handover packages.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience covering ICT engineering design, technical review, implementation, and construction supervision.
- Previous involvement in major airport, aviation, transportation, or large-scale infrastructure programs.
- Practical experience delivering technology infrastructure for passenger terminals, cargo facilities, operational buildings, and critical facilities.
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling, fiber optic infrastructure, data networks, wireless technologies, telecommunications, and data center requirements.
- Experience managing technical interfaces between ICT systems and specialist airport operational platforms.
- Strong understanding of design review, construction supervision, systems integration, testing, commissioning, and handover processes.
- Familiarity with TIA-EIA requirements, ISO-IEC 11801, and BICSI structured cabling guidance.
- Working knowledge of BIM coordination and multidisciplinary engineering processes.
- Ability to evaluate complex designs, identify technical risks, and recommend practical engineering solutions.
- Strong leadership capability when coordinating consultants, contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Master 's degree in ICT, Communications Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field is advantageous.
- BICSI RCDD, Cisco CCNP, Cisco CCNA, or comparable professional certification is desirable.
- Exposure to ICAO, IATA, airport technology requirements, and international aviation practices is beneficial.
- Knowledge of ISO 27001, NIST, or equivalent cybersecurity frameworks is preferred.
- Experience with greenfield airports or major airport expansion programs is highly valuable.
- Familiarity with Design-Build, EPC, PMC, Delivery Partner, or FIDIC-based project environments is advantageous.
