Job summary

Dewan Consultants seeks a Heavy Machinery Driver for Saudi Arabia's beach restoration and marine operations. You will operate diverse heavy equipment in coastal/intertidal zones, perform excavation and material handling, and support dredging and marine construction activities under safe, compliant practices.

Reporting to Operational Manager / Marine Supervisor, you will work across multiple remote island sites and coordinate with surveyors, technicians and supervisors to meet production targets

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Technical Diploma or vocational certificate in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
• Valid heavy equipment operator license and local driving permits.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently in beach, coastal and intertidal environments.

Job Purpose

The Heavy Machinery Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and productive operation of heavy construction and marine support equipment used in beach restoration, shoreline rehabilitation, intertidal maintenance, sand cliffing and decliffing, sediment removal, coastal protection, and marine dredging activities.

The role involves operating heavy machinery in challenging coastal, beach, and intertidal environments while ensuring compliance with Red Sea Global standards, Saudi Arabian regulations, manufacturer operating procedures, and Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) requirements. The Heavy Machinery Driver shall ensure that all work is completed accurately, safely, and with minimal environmental impact.

Works Closely With: Dredging Machine Operators, Surveyors, Mechanical Technicians, Electricians, Divers, Suction Pump Operators, QHSE Officer and Workshop Supervisor

Job Responsibilities

Heavy Equipment Operations

• Operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently in beach, coastal, and intertidal environments.
• Perform beach cliffing and decliffing activities in accordance with approved work methods.
• Carry out excavation, grading, leveling, backfilling, and material handling works.
• Remove accumulated sand, silt, and sediment from designated work areas.
• Shape and restore beach profiles based on survey data and project specifications.
• Load, transport, and stockpile sand and dredged materials at approved locations.
• Operate equipment on soft sand, uneven terrain, and shallow-water access areas.
• Work safely in proximity to marine operations, dredging activities, and environmentally sensitive areas.
• Follow excavation limits and maintain required working tolerances.

Equipment to be Operated

Operate one or more of the following equipment, depending on competency and project requirements:

• Hydraulic Excavators.
• Long-Reach Excavators.
• Amphibious Excavators.
• Wheel Loaders.
• Backhoe Loaders.

• Compact Track Loaders.

Operational Responsibilities

• Perform excavation in accordance with approved drawings and survey benchmarks.
• Coordinate equipment movements with Surveyors and Supervisors.
• Follow guidance from banksmen and signalmen during equipment maneuvering.
• Operate machinery within designated work zones.
• Monitor tidal movements and adapt operations accordingly.
• Ensure production targets are achieved without compromising safety or quality.
• Assist with emergency response and recovery operations when required.

Equipment Inspection & Maintenance

• Conduct daily pre-start inspections before operating machinery.
• Check engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant, fuel, transmission fluid, and other service levels.
• Inspect tracks, tires, hydraulic hoses, cylinders, booms, buckets, attachments, and safety devices.
• Verify the proper operation of brakes, steering, warning alarms, cameras, mirrors, and lighting systems.
• Report mechanical defects, leaks, abnormal noises, or equipment damage immediately.
• Clean machinery after each shift and ensure proper shutdown procedures.
• Coordinate with Mechanical Technicians for preventive and corrective maintenance.

Marine & Beach Restoration Support

• Assist Dredging Machine Operators during shoreline restoration activities.
• Support loading and unloading of dredging pipelines, pumps, and marine equipment.
• Transport materials required for beach nourishment and coastal rehabilitation.
• Assist with installation and removal of temporary access roads and working platforms.
• Support marine logistics operations at loading and unloading points.

Environmental Responsibilities

• Operate machinery in a manner that minimizes disturbance to marine habitats, coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass beds.
• Prevent unnecessary erosion, sediment dispersion, and environmental damage.
• Avoid fuel, hydraulic oil, and lubricant spills.
• Report environmental incidents immediately.
• Follow approved environmental management plans and permit conditions.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Operate machinery in accordance with company HSE procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
• Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before commencing work.
• Participate in daily toolbox talks and safety meetings.
• Comply with Permit-to-Work (PTW) requirements.
• Maintain awareness of nearby personnel, equipment, and marine traffic.
• Always Wear mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Stop working immediately if unsafe conditions are identified.
• Report unsafe acts, near misses, and incidents promptly.
• Participate in emergency response drills and safety training.

Documentation & Reporting

• Complete daily equipment inspection checklists.
• Record operating hours and fuel consumption.
• Maintain daily production and activity logs.
• Report equipment breakdowns and maintenance requirements.
• Record completed work quantities where required.
• Submit daily operational reports to the Supervisor.

• Minimum 58 years of experience operating heavy construction equipment.
• Proven experience in beach restoration, dredging, marine construction, coastal engineering, land reclamation, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Experience operating trucks, excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and amphibious equipment.
• Experience working in soft sand, intertidal zones, and coastal environments.
• Familiarity with survey-guided excavation and grading.
• GCC or Middle East project experience is highly preferred.
• Experience working in environmentally sensitive coastal areas is an advantage.

Candidates with previous experience in beach restoration, marine dredging, coastal engineering, land reclamation, ports, harbors, offshore construction, island development, or large-scale infrastructure projects will be given preference. Experience operating excavators, long-reach excavators, amphibious excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and other heavy construction equipment in intertidal zones, beaches, and environmentally sensitive coastal environments is highly desirable. Previous experience on Red Sea Global, NEOM, AMAALA, or similar marine and coastal development projects within the GCC will be considered a significant advantage.
