Job Purpose
The Suction Pump Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of portable and fixed suction dredge pump systems used for beach restoration, shoreline rehabilitation, sand and silt removal, sediment transfer, lagoon maintenance, and intertidal dredging operations.
The role involves operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting suction pumps, floating pipelines, discharge lines, booster pumps, and associated mechanical systems to ensure uninterrupted dredging activities while protecting the surrounding marine environment. The Suction Pump Operator shall ensure all operations comply with Red Sea Global standards, Saudi Arabian regulations, manufacturer recommendations, and Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) requirements.

Works Closely With: Dredging Machine Operators, Heavy Machinery Drivers, Divers, Mechanical Technicians, Electricians, Surveyors, Workshop Supervisor, QHSE Officer and Marine Crew
Job Responsibilities
Suction Pump Operations
- Operate portable and fixed suction dredge pump systems safely and efficiently.
- Perform sand, silt, sediment, and slurry removal from beaches, lagoons, channels, and intertidal areas.
- Operate pumps for beach nourishment, shoreline rehabilitation, and coastal restoration activities.
- Start, monitor, regulate, and shut down suction pump systems in accordance with approved operating procedures.
- Monitor pump pressure, discharge flow, vacuum levels, engine performance, and system efficiency.
- Maintain continuous pumping operations while minimizing downtime.
- Coordinate pumping activities with Dredging Machine Operators and Surveyors to achieve project production targets.
Pipeline & Dredging Support
- Assemble, install, relocate, and dismantle floating and land-based suction and discharge pipelines.
- Inspect suction hoses, discharge hoses, floating pipelines, couplings, flanges, valves, and fittings.
- Monitor slurry flow and prevent blockages within the pipeline system.
- Remove obstructions from suction intakes and discharge lines.
- Assist in repositioning floating pipelines as dredging progresses.
- Coordinate with Divers during underwater pipeline inspections and repairs.
Equipment Inspection & Maintenance
- Conduct daily pre-start inspections of suction pumps and associated equipment.
- Check engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant, fuel, lubrication systems, belts, bearings, impellers, seals, hoses, and valves.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance in accordance with maintenance schedules.
- Replace worn components including impellers, seals, gaskets, filters, and couplings.
- Identify abnormal vibrations, noise, overheating, cavitation, or performance loss.
- Coordinate with Mechanical Technicians and Electricians for corrective maintenance.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and proper shutdown procedures after each shift.
Production Monitoring
- Monitor pumping rates and production quantities.
- Optimize pump performance to maximize operational efficiency.
- Ensure dredged material is discharged to approved disposal or beach nourishment locations.
- Minimize interruptions caused by pipeline failures or equipment breakdowns.
- Adjust operating parameters according to material characteristics and site conditions.
Marine & Beach Restoration Support
- Support beach restoration and shoreline profiling activities.
- Assist Heavy Machinery Drivers during excavation and sediment transfer operations.
- Support marine logistics involving floating pumps and associated equipment.
- Assist in mobilization and demobilization of dredging equipment.
- Work closely with Surveyors to ensure dredging depths and restoration profiles comply with project requirements.
Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
- Comply with all company HSE policies, procedures, and permit requirements.
- Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before commencing work.
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Always Wear mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ensure all rotating equipment guards and safety devices remain in place.
- Prevent fuel, oil, and hydraulic fluid leaks during operations.
- Minimize turbidity, sediment dispersion, and environmental disturbance.
- Protect coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass beds, and environmentally sensitive marine habitats.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and environmental observations immediately.
- Participate in emergency response and spill containment activities.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily suction pump operating logs.
- Record engine operating hours, pumping hours, and production quantities.
- Complete equipment inspection checklists.
- Record maintenance activities and component replacements.
- Report equipment defects and breakdowns immediately.
- Submit daily production and operational reports to the Supervisor.
- Maintain fuel consumption records where applicable.

Qualification and Experience
Education Qualification
Mandatory
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred
- Diploma or Technical Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Marine Engineering, Heavy Equipment Operations, or a related technical discipline.

Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience operating suction pumps, dredging pumps, slurry pumps, or dewatering systems.
- Proven experience in beach restoration, dredging, coastal engineering, land reclamation, marine construction, mining, or industrial pumping operations.
- Experience operating diesel-powered and hydraulic pump systems.
- Experience with floating pipelines, discharge systems, and dredging support equipment.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance of pumping equipment.
- GCC or Middle East project experience is highly preferred.
- Experience working in environmentally sensitive coastal or island environments is an advantage.

Job Context
Candidates with experience in beach restoration, marine dredging, coastal engineering, land reclamation, ports, harbors, offshore construction, mining, dewatering, or large-scale infrastructure projects will be given preference. Experience operating portable suction dredge pumps, slurry pumps, booster pumps, floating pipelines, and sediment transfer systems in intertidal zones, lagoons, beaches, and environmentally sensitive coastal environments is highly desirable.
Previous experience on Red Sea Global, NEOM, AMAALA, Saudi Aramco, or other major GCC marine and coastal infrastructure projects, particularly involving beach nourishment, shoreline rehabilitation, sediment removal, and dredging operations, will be considered a significant advantage.
