Job summary

Pathways Health Ltd in Wellington, NZ is hiring for a permanent respite support role. The position is 32 hours per week, Friday to Monday, 3:00pm to 11:30pm, providing care and advocacy in a supportive, trauma-informed setting.

You will work with tāngata whai ora to improve mental health and independence, assist with safe medication, notes, and meals, and draw on lived experience to promote wellbeing and whānau connections.

Qualifications

• Must have NZCHW Level 4 or recognised equivalent; or currently working towards it.
• Must hold a current full driver’s licence.
• Must hold a current first aid certificate or be willing to obtain one.
• Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Support tāngata whai ora to regain mental health and independence.
• Provide safe medication support as part of respite care.
• Housekeeping to a high standard and safe meal preparation.
• Accurate note taking and handovers to the team.
• Advocate for and empower the people we support; use lived experience where appropriate.

This is a permanent role working Friday to Monday, 3:00pm to 11:30pm (32 hours per week).

We support up to six guests in our double-staffed respite service, providing a safe and supportive space for people who need some time out during a period of personal crisis. Our team engages with guests, offering practical support, connection, and advocacy throughout their stay.

Working in respite some of your responsibilitiesmay include, but are not limited to:

• Supporting tāngata whai ora regain their mental health and independence.
• Providing safe medication support
• Housekeeping to a high standard
• Comprehensive note taking and handovers
• Cooking nutritious inviting meals
• Advocating for and empowering the people we support
• Where applicable, draw on your lived experience to support tāngata whai ora on their journey towards wellbeing

We’re looking for people with a caring nature who use recovery- and trauma-informed approaches to actively support tāngata whai ora to achieve and maintain their wellbeing. We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience who are at a point in their own wellbeing journey where they feel ready and confident to support others on theirs.

• You must hold the Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (NZCHW), a recognised equivalent, or be currently working towards it.
• You must hold a current full driver’s licence.
• You must a current first aid certificate or be willing to obtain one.
• Knowledge of, and demonstrable commitment to, the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
