Job summary

CryptoMize in New Delhi HQ is seeking a seasoned Scots translator to join the linguistics cell that serves all five Penta domains. You will render English to Scots and Scots-English, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to the house spelling convention.

This is a full-time permanent role with immediate joining and rolling intake; compensation is discussed at screening and tailored to engagement needs.

Qualifications

• Must be a native or near-native writer in Scots across varieties.
• Ability to enforce house spelling conventions across documents.
• Experience in selecting appropriate Scots variety per engagement.
• Ability to edit with speed while maintaining accuracy.
• Strong command of literary register from makar-Burns lineage.

Responsibilities

• Carry the desk's highest-stakes Scots deliverables personally — public-facing campaign material, community documents, and heritage-sensitive text where variety and density choices are visible strategy.
• Hold the orthographic convention firm: every document that ships, intern drafts included, passes your review against the house spelling line
• Rule variety policy per engagement — Doric for North-East belonging, Central for broad reach, Ulster forms where the audience sits — with decisions recorded for reuse

The role presumes seasoned hands: you have rendered English to Scots and Scots to English professionally, you can hold a spelling convention across a document set without drift, and you know which variety a sentence belongs to before you write it. What you will actually do:

• Carry the desk's highest-stakes Scots deliverables personally — public-facing campaign material, community documents, and heritage-sensitive text where variety and density choices are visible strategy
• Hold the orthographic convention firm: every document that ships, intern drafts included, passes your review against the house spelling line
• Rule variety policy per engagement — Doric for North-East belonging, Central for broad reach, Ulster forms where the audience sits — with decisions recorded for reuse
