Position: Psychology & Wellness Teacher

School: Bloomingdale International School

Location: Penamaluru, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh

Reports to: Head of School / Principal

About the Role

The Psychology & Wellness Teacher will support students through engaging psychology and wellness learning experiences while also providing appropriate guidance and counseling support.

The teacher will work closely with students, teachers, parents, coordinators, and school leadership to promote a safe, inclusive, emotionally supportive, and positive school environment.

What You'll Do
Psychology & Wellness Teaching
  • Plan and deliver engaging, age‑appropriate lessons and activities related to psychology, well‑being, emotional intelligence, self‑awareness, relationships, and personal development.
  • Develop students' understanding of emotions, behaviour, communication, resilience, and healthy relationships.
  • Use interactive, experiential, and student‑centered approaches to make learning meaningful.
  • Support students in developing positive coping strategies, decision‑making skills, and self‑management.
  • Adapt learning activities to suit different age groups and student needs.
  • Encourage students to reflect on their experiences, emotions, strengths, and personal growth.
Student Counselling & Support
  • Provide appropriate one‑to‑one and group guidance to students.
  • Support students experiencing academic, emotional, social, behavioural, or peer‑related challenges.
  • Help students develop healthy coping mechanisms and communication skills.
  • Support students dealing with concerns such as stress, anxiety, peer relationships, bullying, adjustment, or academic pressure.
  • Identify students who may require additional support and follow appropriate school referral procedures.
  • Refer students to qualified external mental health professionals when required and in accordance with school policies.
Student Well‑being Programmes
  • Develop and conduct wellness, mental health awareness, emotional intelligence, stress management, and life‑skills programmes.
  • Organize age‑appropriate workshops and awareness sessions for students.
  • Support initiatives related to social‑emotional learning and positive school culture.
  • Conduct activities that promote resilience, confidence, empathy, mindfulness, communication, and healthy relationships.
  • Contribute to school‑wide student well‑being initiatives.
Parent & Teacher Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and coordinators to identify and support students who may need additional assistance.
  • Communicate appropriately with parents regarding student well‑being and development.
  • Conduct or support parent awareness sessions on topics related to child and adolescent well‑being.
  • Support teachers in understanding and responding appropriately to student behavioural and emotional needs.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in all interactions.
Assessment & Documentation
  • Observe and identify student needs using appropriate professional practices.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records related to counselling and student support.
  • Monitor student progress and document interventions where appropriate.
  • Prepare periodic reports and updates for the relevant school leadership, in accordance with school policies.
  • Follow appropriate safeguarding, confidentiality, and referral procedures.
Crisis & Safeguarding Support
  • Provide appropriate first‑line emotional support during student or school‑related crisis situations.
  • Follow the school's safeguarding and child‑protection procedures.
  • Escalate serious concerns to the appropriate school leadership or qualified professionals.
  • Maintain professional, ethical, and confidential practices at all times.
What We're Looking For
  • Master's degree in Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, or a related field.
  • Relevant counselling, child psychology, adolescent psychology, or wellness certification will be an advantage.
  • 2–3 years of experience in school counselling, psychology, student wellness, teaching, or a related role is preferred.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong listening, observation, empathy, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, confidentiality, and care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, coordinators, and school leadership.
  • Good documentation and organizational skills.
