Job summary

Bloomingdale International School in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, seeks an experienced SEN Coordinator to lead inclusion across IB PYP, MYP and DP.

SEN Coordinator | Special Educational Needs & Inclusion

Location: Bloomingdale International School, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh

Department: Student Support Services

Reports To: Principal / IB Coordinator

Key Responsibilities

SEN & Inclusion Leadership

• Lead and coordinate the school's SEN / Learning Support and inclusion practices.
• Develop and implement effective strategies to support students with diverse learning needs.
• Promote an inclusive, safe, respectful, and student-centered learning environment.
• Support the implementation of inclusive education practices across PYP, MYP, and DP.
• Contribute to the development and review of school policies and procedures related to inclusion and learning support.
• Promote awareness of learning differences and inclusive practices across the school community.

Student Identification & Learning Support

• Support the identification and assessment of students who may require additional learning support.
• Review educational, psychological, behavioral, and specialist assessment reports where available.
• Develop and oversee Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), support plans, and accommodation plans.
• Monitor student progress and review support strategies based on student needs and learning outcomes.
• Work with teachers to identify appropriate interventions, accommodations, and classroom strategies.
• Maintain appropriate records of student support and progress.

Teacher Collaboration & Classroom Support

• Work closely with classroom and subject teachers to support differentiated and inclusive instruction.
• Guide teachers in adapting learning materials, classroom activities, assessments, and teaching approaches.
• Promote Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and differentiated learning practices.
• Provide practical strategies for supporting students with learning difficulties, attention challenges, behavioral needs, and other learning differences.
• Conduct classroom observations when required and provide constructive guidance to teachers.
• Support teachers in implementing appropriate assessment accommodations.

Teacher Training & Professional Development

• Plan and conduct workshops and awareness sessions on:
• Inclusive education
• Differentiation
• Learning difficulties
• Classroom accommodations
• Positive behavior support
• UDL
• Student wellbeing
• Supporting neurodiverse learners
• Provide ongoing guidance and coaching to teachers.
• Build teacher capacity to identify and respond to diverse learning needs.
• Encourage evidence-based and student-centered approaches to learning support.

Parent & Family Engagement

• Develop positive and professional relationships with parents and guardians.
• Communicate student support strategies, progress, and recommendations clearly and sensitively.
• Conduct parent meetings and support discussions related to student learning needs.
• Guide parents regarding appropriate educational interventions and external professional support where required.
• Organize awareness sessions for parents on learning differences, inclusion, and student support.

External Specialist Collaboration

• Coordinate with relevant external professionals such as:
• Educational / Child Psychologists
• Special Educators
• Speech and Language Therapists
• Occupational Therapists
• Behavioral Specialists
• Other learning-support professionals
• Facilitate communication between school teams, parents, and external specialists.
• Review specialist recommendations and support their appropriate implementation within the school environment.

IB & Inclusive Education

• Support the implementation of IB principles related to inclusion, learner diversity, student agency, and equitable access to learning.
• Work with PYP, MYP, and DP Coordinators to ensure curriculum accessibility.
• Support teachers in providing appropriate accommodations and differentiation.
• Maintain awareness of relevant IB guidance concerning inclusion and assessment access arrangements.
• Support documentation and evidence required for programme development, evaluation, and school improvement.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate and confidential records of student learning support plans and interventions.
• Monitor IEP/ILP implementation and review timelines.
• Maintain documentation related to assessments, accommodations, interventions, and student progress.
• Support school leadership with relevant inclusion and SEN documentation.
• Ensure student information is handled with appropriate confidentiality and professionalism.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Education, Psychology, Educational Psychology, Learning Support, Inclusive Education, or a related field.
• 5–8+ years of relevant experience in SEN, learning support, inclusion, special education, or a similar educational support role preferred.
• Experience working directly with school-aged children with diverse learning needs.
• Experience developing and monitoring IEPs / ILPs / learning support plans.
• Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and inclusive classroom practices.
• Experience collaborating with teachers, parents, and external specialists.

IB Experience

• Experience working in an IB PYP, MYP, or DP school is preferred but not mandatory.
• IB training in Inclusion, Learning Diversity, SEN, or related areas will be an advantage.
• Candidates with experience in CBSE, ICSE, Cambridge, IGCSE, international schools, special education schools, or learning support centers are encouraged to apply.
