PYP Coordinator | IB Primary Years Programme

Key Responsibilities

PYP Curriculum Leadership

• Lead the effective implementation and continuous development of the IB PYP across the primary school.
• Oversee the planning, implementation, documentation, review, and evaluation of the PYP curriculum.
• Ensure alignment of teaching and learning practices with IB PYP standards and practices.
• Support the development and review of Programme of Inquiry (POI), unit planners, transdisciplinary learning, and subject-specific learning experiences.
• Promote inquiry-based, concept-driven, student-centered, and transdisciplinary learning.
• Support the integration of the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills across the curriculum.

Teacher Mentoring & Instructional Leadership

• Mentor, guide, and support teachers in effective implementation of PYP practices.
• Facilitate collaborative planning meetings and professional learning communities.
• Observe teaching and learning and provide constructive, developmental feedback.
• Support teachers in developing inquiry-based learning experiences and differentiated instruction.
• Encourage reflective practice, innovation, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.
• Identify professional development needs and support the implementation of appropriate training initiatives.

Assessment & Student Learning

• Guide teachers in implementing effective formative and summative assessment practices.
• Monitor assessment processes to ensure alignment with PYP principles and learning outcomes.
• Support teachers in documenting and communicating student learning and progress.
• Promote assessment practices that encourage reflection, student agency, and meaningful feedback.
• Review student learning evidence and work collaboratively with teachers to identify areas for improvement.

IB Programme Development & Compliance

• Coordinate PYP documentation and maintain relevant programme records and evidence.
• Support the school leadership team in preparation for IB authorization, evaluation, and programme development processes.
• Liaise with the IB and relevant programme representatives as required.
• Ensure that school policies, curriculum documentation, and learning practices reflect current IB expectations.
• Stay updated with developments in the IB PYP framework, standards, practices, and requirements.

Professional Development

• Plan, organize, and facilitate professional development sessions for teachers and staff.
• Promote ongoing learning related to inquiry, conceptual understanding, assessment, differentiation, student agency, and international-mindedness.
• Encourage teachers to participate in IB workshops and other relevant professional learning opportunities.
• Build a culture of reflection, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Collaboration & School Community

• Work closely with the Principal, Head of School, academic leaders, and teaching teams to strengthen PYP implementation.
• Collaborate with specialist teachers and other academic departments to support transdisciplinary learning.
• Engage with parents and the wider school community to promote understanding of the PYP philosophy.
• Support parent orientation and information sessions related to PYP learning and assessment.
• Contribute to school-wide academic planning, policies, events, and strategic initiatives.

Student-Centered Learning & Wellbeing

• Promote student agency, voice, choice, and ownership of learning.
• Encourage a culture of curiosity, questioning, reflection, and lifelong learning.
• Support inclusive and differentiated learning approaches that respond to diverse student needs.
• Promote the development of internationally minded learners who demonstrate the IB Learner Profile attributes.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Elementary Education, Primary Education, or a related field.
• Master's degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant teaching and PYP leadership/coordinator experience preferred.
• Recognized IB PYP training/workshop experience is essential.
• Demonstrated experience leading or supporting PYP implementation within a school environment.
• Strong understanding of inquiry-based, concept-driven, and transdisciplinary learning.
• Experience with IB authorization, evaluation, programme development, or school improvement processes is highly desirable.
