This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and innovative Psychology Team. The post-holder would be based within a diverse Medical Psychology Team, working across many clinical specialties in an acute setting. This provides excellent opportunities, including peer support, supervision, and CPD alongside psychology colleagues.
We are looking for a Practitioner Psychologist/High Intensity Therapist (Band 7) who is creative, motivated, and passionate about the role of Psychology within Psycho-oncology services at the University Hospital of Hartlepool and North Tees. The 0.5 post is offered at a band 7 with potential progression to band 8a through a competency-based gateway (preceptorship).

Psychologists in our service enjoy the variety within Psycho-oncology, utilizing a broad range of knowledge and skills to provide therapy for individuals experiencing mental health difficulties related to their cancer diagnosis and care.
This role is line managed through a structured psychology framework and offers opportunities to develop specialized expertise, including individual therapy, group work, and supervision skills.
The role primarily involves direct clinical work with patients via face-to-face, telephone, and possibly home or community visits (e.g., care homes, hospices). Supervision and support will be provided by the Psychology Service Lead. Additionally, responsibilities include supervising Assistant Psychologists and supporting senior staff with audits, reports, data collection, and research presentations.
The post-holder should demonstrate compassion and empathy, supporting individuals and families to come to terms with a cancer diagnosis or palliative prognosis. Good communication and positive leadership skills are essential.

The candidate will be expected to manage a caseload within cancer and palliative care, work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, support the Lead Psychologist with daily duties and management responsibilities (including supervising trainees, delivering training, audits, research, consultancy, and staff support), and participate in regular MDTs to proactively reduce waiting times for psychological support.
