Job Title: Secondary English Teacher
Location: Oakham Shires School, Rutland, LE15 6JB
Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum depending on experience (not pro rata)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday | 8:30am – 4:30pm
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: March 2026

About the Role

As part of our continued growth, we’re looking for a passionate and skilled Secondary English Teacher to join our close-knit team at Oakham Shires School, part of Options Autism. You’ll be responsible for delivering GCSE English Teacher, supporting students across the school. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of autistic pupils who have struggled in mainstream education and need a tailored, compassionate approach.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Teaching English up to GCSE level in small class groups (max. 6 pupils)
  • Supporting learners with autism and developmental trauma, helping close gaps in learning
  • Adapting lessons to meet a wide range of abilities and individual needs
  • Creating a calm, supportive, and engaging classroom environment
  • Working with a team of passionate educators and therapists to help every child thrive
What We’re Looking For
  • QTS / BEd / PGCE or equivalent
  • Proven experience of teaching English at GCSE level
  • Experience supporting SEN and/or disadvantaged learners
  • A compassionate, calm, and emotionally intelligent approach
  • Understanding of autism, trauma-informed practices, and behaviour as communication
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team
  • A Full UK Driving Licence
  • This role is not suitable for Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
