Job summary
A community sports organization is seeking a Disability Swimming Volunteer to provide 1-2-1 support for disabled swimmers during sessions at Abertillery Sports Centre. You'll assist swimmers in gaining confidence in the water and help improve their skills. This role requires patience, empathy, and good communication skills. Commitment is just 1 hour per week on Thursdays, making it a rewarding opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

Responsibilities
- Provide 1-2-1 support to a swimmer with a disability.

Job Title: Disability Swimming Volunteer
Location: Abertillery Sports Centre
Time Commitment: 1 hour per week (Thursday)
Reports To: Aquatic Development Officer / Community Sports Development Officer
Duration: Ongoing
To provide 1-2-1 support for disabled swimmers during swimming sessions at Abertillery Sports Centre, helping them feel safe, supported, and confident in the water. Volunteers play a vital role in enabling swimmers to enjoy physical activity, improve their skills, and participate fully.
- Provide tailored, 1-2-1 support to a swimmer with a disability in the pool (under supervision of a Level 2 Swimming Instructor).
- Assist with water confidence, mobility, and basic swimming techniques.
- Communicate clearly and positively with the swimmer to build trust and encourage participation.
- Work closely with instructors and lifeguards to ensure the swimmer’s safety at all times.
- Adapt support to suit the swimmer’s individual needs and ability level.
- Help with poolside transitions (getting in/out of the water) as required and appropriate.
- Encourage independence and enjoyment in the water.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold safeguarding practices.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working in a swimming pool environment.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
