Job description
Workshop Manager – Historic & Classic Cars

Location: UK

Salary : Competitive, dependent on experience

An established and highly respected historic car workshop is looking for an experienced Workshop Manager to lead day‑to‑day operations and help shape the next chapter of a business built on craftsmanship, reputation, and passion for automotive heritage.

This is a hands‑on leadership role within a close‑knit team that works on some truly special machinery. The workshop is known for doing things properly—no shortcuts, no compromises—where quality, accuracy, and pride in the finished car matter just as much as delivery.

The Role

As Workshop Manager, you’ll take overall responsibility for the smooth running of the workshop, balancing people, projects, and clients to ensure work is delivered to the highest standards.

  • Lead and motivate a skilled team of historic car mechanics and engine builders
  • Plan, organise, and prioritise multiple restoration and engineering projects
  • Track progress against budgets and timelines, stepping in when adjustments are needed
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, suppliers, and specialist partners
  • Help develop the workshop’s service offering while protecting its hard‑earned reputation
  • Maintain a safe, professional, and well‑organised working environment
What We’re Looking For
Essential
  • Proven experience managing an automotive workshop
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide, mentor, and motivate a small team
  • Excellent organisational and project‑management ability
  • Confident communication skills and a professional approach to client relationships
Desirable
  • Background in classic or historic vehicles
  • Understanding of restoration processes, traditional engineering, and best practice
  • A genuine passion for classic cars and preserving them the right way
What’s On Offer
  • Competitive salary reflecting experience and responsibility
  • The chance to work with prestigious vehicles and knowledgeable clients
  • A stable, well‑regarded workshop with long‑term prospects
  • Benefits package including pension and health cover

If you’re someone who believes heritage matters, quality lasts, and workshops should be places of pride as well as productivity, this could be a rare opportunity to step into a pivotal role
