Responsibilities

  • Allocate work to technicians and apprentices ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Manage customer expectations while ensuring timely completion of work.
  • Maintain relationships with the Parts Department for parts availability.
  • Lead and develop the team to meet objectives.
  • Report issues to Service Manager/Depot Manager regarding unfinished jobs.
  • Perform weekly maintenance checks on workshop equipment.
  • Ensure professionalism and quality with customers and suppliers.
  • Assist managers with efficiency improvement methods.
  • Comply with health and safety policies.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Overview

Thompson Commercials are the largest privately owned Renault Truck dealership in the UK, operating seven depots across the East of England and supplying the full range of new Renault and Isuzu trucks, pre‑owned trucks, trailers and vans.

We are seeking a Workshop Controller to join our Hull depot.

Responsibilities
  • Allocate work to technicians and apprentices while considering knowledge and skills and ensuring that manufacturer’s warranty standards are adhered to and all relevant documentation is completed for each repair, service and maintenance.
  • Ensure all work is completed in a timely and accurate manner, managing customer expectations at all times.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with the Parts Department to maximise parts availability.
  • Lead, motivate, coach and develop the team to achieve daily, weekly and monthly objectives.
  • Report and seek advice on any problems highlighted during work so they can be overcome and keep the customer informed where delays occur.
  • Report to the Service Manager/Depot Manager on the position of unfinished jobs in the workshop at the end or during the day.
  • Undertake relevant weekly maintenance checks on workshop equipment (e.g. compressor oil levels).
  • Maintain a high level of competence for the work undertaken through continuous professional development (CPD), training and reading technical bulletins.
  • Ensure professionalism and quality at all times, particularly with customers and suppliers.
  • Assist managers with the introduction of new methods designed or implicated to improve efficiency.
  • Ensure the care, maintenance and safekeeping of all tools, equipment and materials used, and report any defects found.
  • Comply with Thompson Commercials Safety Policy and other safety procedures and guidelines. Employees must look after their own health, safety and welfare, be mindful of others, cooperate with management, and report all accidents, incidents and problems as soon as practicable.
  • Perform any other duties reasonably related to the general character of the post and commensurate with its level of responsibility.
