Job description

The wordings team servicing UK & Lloyds seeks a Wordings Analyst to join us. You will be an integral part of the team, part of a wider Global Wordings function within Global Litigation, supporting underwriters across all product lines covering a wide range of complex risks. You will have the opportunity to grow your wordings skillset and set AXA XL apart by demonstrating your technical drafting skills and advisory services to underwriters, their clients and brokers.

What you'll be doing

Your essential responsibilities will include:

  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across the Global Wordings team, the wider Legal function, Claims, Compliance, and Conduct Risk to meet team goals, service standards, and internal projects. Maintain clear communication with underwriting teams to understand their needs. Contribute towards our safe and inclusive value-based culture with a sense of team spirit and purpose.
  • Create & Innovate: Collaborate with stakeholders to create and refine insurance products, leading innovation for AXA XL. Translate underwriting intent into cover with limited supervision.
  • Training & Development: Share best practices across the business, support presentations to underwriting teams, and provide technical wording advice pre- and post-bind. Supported by the wider wordings team, proactively identify gaps and grow your wordings skillset.
  • Analysis & Review: Support underwriters and fellow wordings personnel in the review of wordings and clauses of every type, explaining to underwriters and other stakeholders their implications and wording risk. Support the timely delivery of commercial outcomes for the issues presented.
  • Governance & Contract Certainty: Ensure contractual clarity and adherence to governance principles when reviewing and advising on contractual terms in line with Underwriting, Legal, Risk, Compliance, and regulatory standards.
  • External Engagement: Support AXA XL representation in wording discussions and negotiations with brokers and clients, ensuring technical and commercial elements are aligned.
  • Technology & Innovation: Embrace new contract analytics tools and manage contract management systems, seeking opportunities for process improvement.
  • Leadership & Mentoring: Demonstrate role‑model behaviours and support continuous improvement initiatives. Plan and self‑manage your workload, adhering to deadlines and competing priorities.

You will report to the Wordings Manager for UK & Lloyds.

What you'll bring

What we’re looking for:

Applications from candidates with a legal, underwriting or claims background are welcome.
  • The ability to interpret and analyse insurance clauses and requests, creating with limited support clear, robust wording solutions from existing material, always with our customers in mind.
  • The willingness to present and discuss with support wording solutions face‑to‑face and in writing with underwriters, brokers, and peers.
  • An understanding of insurance, legal, and compliance needs across different classes, and an awareness of standard clauses and market practices.
  • Capable of planning and managing workload independently under pressure, meeting deadlines and juggling priorities.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills, with a grasp of how insurance products are constructed and operate in the real world.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interrogate coverage concepts and explore abstract policy ideas.
  • Desirable: ACII qualification, legal qualification, and experience with contract analytics technology.

We know that sustainability is at the root of a more resilient future. Our 2023‑26 Sustainability strategy, called “Roots of resilience”, focuses on protecting natural ecosystems, addressing climate change, and embedding sustainable practices across our operations.

Our Pillars:

  • Valuing nature: How we impact nature affects how nature impacts us. Resilient ecosystems – the foundation of a sustainable planet and society – are essential to our future. We’re committed to protecting and restoring nature – from mangrove forests to the bees in our backyard – by increasing biodiversity awareness and inspiring clients and colleagues to put nature at the heart of their plans.
  • Addressing climate change: The effects of a changing climate are far‑reaching and significant. Unpredictable weather, increasing temperatures, and rising sea levels cause both social inequalities and environmental disruption. We're building a net zero strategy, developing insurance products and services, and mobilizing to advance thought leadership and investment in societal‑led solutions.
  • Integrating ESG: All companies have a role to play in building a more resilient future. Incorporating ESG considerations into our internal processes and practices builds resilience from the roots of our business. We’re training our colleagues, engaging our external partners, and evolving our sustainability governance and reporting.
