About The Role

School Wellbeing Lead

Location: Based between the following Orbis schools Ty Trafle School (Gowerton) and Birchwood School (Cardiff).

Salary: £30,000 per annum + Mileage

Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only (Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week)

Orbis Education and Care is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a School Wellbeing Lead to join our specialist education team. This role will support our schools across South Wales, leading on mental health and wellbeing for individuals aged 4-19 with autism, learning disabilities, and social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), many of whom may have experienced trauma.

About the Role

As a School Wellbeing Lead, you will take the lead in embedding a whole-school approach to wellbeing across our settings. You will:

  • Champion the emotional wellbeing of individuals, staff and families across the school community
  • Deliver direct interventions, including both individual and group sessions, tailored to support emotional regulation, resilience, and mental health
  • Work closely with Heads of School and the wider leadership team to ensure wellbeing practices are embedded in all aspects of school life
  • Collaborate with the organisation's clinical, therapy and quality teams, and build strong links with local mental health services
  • Provide guidance, coaching and training to staff to enhance their confidence and skills in supporting mental health
  • Liaise with parents and carers, offering advice and support to help them promote wellbeing at home
  • Support schools to meet nationally recognised quality standards for whole-school mental health
Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and sustain a whole-school strategy for wellbeing, tailored to each school's needs
  • Lead the identification, assessment and support of individuals showing signs of emotional distress or poor mental health
  • Develop and oversee early intervention and prevention programmes
  • Deliver and evaluate impactful training sessions for staff on mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Maintain clear, consistent record keeping and reporting, including contributions to referrals, reviews and safeguarding procedures
  • Monitor and evaluate the success of interventions and whole-school strategies, adapting where necessary
  • Engage with external services and professionals to ensure individuals and families can access appropriate support
What We're Looking For
  • A recognised Level 4 or above Diploma in Counselling (or equivalent), and professional registration with BACP, UKCP, or similar (desirable)
  • Experience working with children and young people with additional needs, including autism, ADHD, and trauma
  • Ability to engage confidently with parents, carers, and professionals
  • A collaborative approach with confidence to influence and support colleagues
  • A flexible and creative mindset, committed to person-centred care and inclusive practices
  • Excellent communication, organisational and record-keeping skills
Desirable Training/Certifications
  • Accreditation in evidence-based school wellbeing programmes (e.g., ELSA, Thrive)
  • Driver essential
  • Safeguarding qualifications or Mental Health First Aid certification
  • Knowledge of Welsh Government wellbeing frameworks and statutory safeguarding guidance
