Job description

Location: Stockport London or home‑based within the UK

As a Water Engineer (Consultant Senior or Principal level) within our growing consultancy you will lead and grow the Water Environment team to address our clients flood risk and drainage challenges, delivering practical and environmentally positive engineering solutions. You will design, assess and manage water and drainage systems across a variety of projects, including flood risk assessments, surface water management and sustainable drainage design. You will collaborate with engineers, planners and environmental specialists to deliver sustainable evidence‑based outcomes for clients in both the public and private sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead or contribute to the design and assessment of flood risk and drainage infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and review Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) and surface water management strategies.
  • Undertake hydrological, hydraulic and water resource modelling using tools such as HEC‑RAS, TUFLOW, MIKE SHE or InfoWorks ICM.
  • Analyse data from fieldwork, GIS and remote sensing to inform engineering design and project delivery.
  • Prepare high‑quality technical reports, designs and client presentations.
  • Provide expert advice on water resource management, flood resilience and drainage design.
  • Liaise with clients, regulators and local authorities to ensure compliance with technical and environmental standards.

Requirements
  • Degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in flood risk management, drainage design and SuDS delivery.
  • Proficiency in relevant design and modelling software (e.g. Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, InfoWorks ICM).
  • Strong analytical written and communication skills.
  • A collaborative proactive approach and a genuine interest in sustainable water management.
  • Working towards or holding Chartership or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status through ICE, CIWEM or similar professional body is desirable.
