Job summary

A local council in Wolverhampton is seeking a Waste Operative to ensure safe and efficient waste collection services. The role requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to work physically demanding tasks, including walking 8-12 miles daily. Waste Operative

Salary - £30,024 - £33,699 (Grade 5)

Hours - 37 hours per week

Contract type - Full time, permanent

Applications are invited from suitably experienced candidates to work in the service group delivering the Council's Waste Collection Service.

Role responsibilities:
  • To undertake waste duties as directed to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective collection or disposal of waste and recyclates from domestic, businesses or council premises across the City.
  • To represent the Council as a point of first contact for any issues or assistance required by the customer during the performance of the assigned duties.
Role requirements:
  • An experienced Waste Operative with a positive approach to this physically demanding role.
  • Confident working in a front-line service and providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to walk in excess of 8 - 12 miles per day.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently access and egress from a waste collection vehicle.
  • Ability to move vary sized bins to place them on to a loading mechanism.
  • Ability to work in accordance with health and safety legislation and apply this to your daily tasks.
  • Ability to recognise, understand and provide advice on disposal of waste, recycling and garden waste.
  • Demonstrate and promote excellent customer services skills and be confident in dealing with members of the public.
  • Demonstrate and promote a positive attitude, excellent team working skills and reliability.
  • Ability to work as part of a team ensuring excellent standards are always achieved.
  • Share the Councils commitment towards waste minimisation and improved recycling opportunities.
  • A Full current UK driving licence is desirable.

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location.
