Waste Management Internship – Operations Support

We are seeking a Waste Management Intern to support our Contract Management team across multiple sites, focusing on operational procedures, client engagement, and initiatives that promote re-use and community value. The role involves ensuring safe operations, minimising environmental impact, maintaining high service standards, and assisting with efficient site management in line with budget objectives.

This internship provides hands-on exposure to all aspects of waste operations, with particular emphasis on identifying opportunities for revenue generation, community engagement, and social value.

Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ)
  • Take responsibility for personal safety and support the safety of all staff, contractors, and visitors.
  • Understand and comply with company HSEQ policies and procedures.
  • Support contract staff with operational issues, training, and development.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operations, with a focus on re-use and social value initiatives.
  • Assist with client engagement and respond to queries from local authorities or other stakeholders.
  • Monitor energy usage and support initiatives aligned with sustainability standards.
Operational Support
  • Assist operational teams to maintain compliance with company management systems, risk assessments, and safe working procedures.
  • Monitor day-to-day site operations to ensure adherence to legislation and company standards in safety, quality, and environmental performance.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, regulatory bodies, and community stakeholders.
  • Support the development of staff knowledge and skills through training and mentoring.
  • Help implement HR policies, training plans, and site-specific compliance initiatives.
  • Share best practice across sites and support new contract mobilisations.
  • Be flexible with work location as required by business needs.
Training and Development
  • Completion of relevant competency and technical training modules.
  • Opportunity to gain hands-on experience in waste operations, site management, and community engagement.
