A leading support services company in the United Kingdom seeks a dedicated Waking Night Carer for a 19-year-old with special care needs. This role involves providing 24/7 support, focusing on comfort and care through active night shifts. Candidates should be experienced in manual handling and have excellent communication skills. The position offers opportunities for compassionate individuals who thrive in a supportive family environment and are committed to continuity of care.
Snap Care has had the pleasure of working with Arv for many years; he is 19 years old. He is at the heart of a loving and supportive family, and lives at home in Hendon with his parents. Arv is a real charmer and loves to be the centre of attention! He is very social, outgoing, and enjoys spending time with his family and peers. Music is a big passion; he loves listening to all genres; anything with a beat and rhythm! Arv has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, which affects all areas of his development, as a result he requires 24/7 support to meet his health, care and medical needs. He is a full‑time wheelchair user, receives almost all his nutrition, fluid and medication via his PEG, may require suctioning (oral) and communicates using sounds, body language and facial expressions.
Over the years, Arv's parents have built a dedicated, dynamic, and skilled team of SEN professionals to support him 24/7. There is an opening for an experienced Waking Night Carer to join the team.
The Waking Night Carer will complete a handover and continue Arv's evening and bedtime routine on a 1:1 basis, supporting with his personal care and getting him comfy and settled in bed. The Carer will prepare his PEG feed and carry out a flush when required. Arv requires full-time attention, often due to levels of discomfort throughout the night and requires regular repositioning, soothing and reassurance. You must be confident with manual handling; hoists are available to reposition Arv during the night. At times, he may want a cuddle on the powered carer's chair next to his bed, and small sips of water. Arv is 42 kg; professional manual handling training will be provided to ensure you are confident in your ability to support him with moving and repositioning.
A comfy, specialist chair is provided whilst on shift, with access to tea/coffee facilities and snacks. You will be in Arv's bedroom throughout the night, tending to his needs as and when required. It is generally a very active waking‑night shift, although, if Arv is asleep and all reports are completed, you are welcome to study/read. In addition to waking nights, there may also be a couple of day shifts available for those interested in daytime work.
A calm, patient, dedicated, and caring Waking Night Carer with excellent communication skills. You must have a genuine passion for supporting others; this will be your vocation. Arv needs his Waking Night Carer to be empathic and intuitive. You will enjoy working in a family setting, within a team, and be a team player. The Carer must be available for a minimum of 2 shifts each week, as continuity of care is paramount.
