Volunteer to Career Programme at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust

This volunteering opportunity is based at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

The Volunteer to Career programme supports the Armed Forces community by offering tailored volunteering roles at hospitals and hospices, enabling volunteers to:

  1. Help people recover and improve their health
  2. Build confidence in employability skills
  3. Identify clear career pathways to reach their full potential

Volunteers will support staff, patients, and carers in various ways, such as providing quick assistance in a busy environment, conducting exercises with hospitalised individuals to enhance fitness, or offering a listening ear to alleviate anxiety. This programme aims to help volunteers find employment in the healthcare sector. During volunteering, participants will:

  1. Gain insights into healthcare roles
  2. Receive tailored support to explore career opportunities
  3. Navigate the recruitment process and access further training
  4. Build confidence and skills
  5. Align volunteering experiences with career goals
  6. Get support for numeracy and literacy skills if desired
  7. Receive peer support for mental health conditions

Current opportunities allow volunteers to explore careers in:

  • Non-Clinical and Estate roles
  • Corporate roles (HR, Finance, IT)
  • Nursing, Medical, and Allied Health Professions
  • Support services including catering, domestic, administration, and portering
