A fantastic opportunity is available for a Vehicle Mechanic to join the team at Liverpool Airport, carrying out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance on a wide range of specialist airport vehicles and mechanical systems. This role suits a technically skilled mechanic who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working within a fast-paced operational environment.
You will help maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of essential airport equipment including buses, firefighting appliances, snow clearing machinery, de-icing equipment, and other airside operational vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Service, maintain, and repair airport vehicles including buses, firefighting appliances, tractors, and operational support equipment.
- Carry out diagnostics and repairs across electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Support winter operations by maintaining snow clearing and de-icing equipment.
- Perform fabrication repairs on barriers, fences, and various airport mechanical structures.
- Manage vehicle compliance including MOT preparation, inspections, tax, and maintenance records.
- Liaise with external contractors to maintain high safety and quality standards.
- Record all maintenance activity using the airport's electronic maintenance system.
- Support standby generators with re-fuelling, battery changes, and mechanical fault-finding.
- Provide 24/7 maintenance cover as part of an on-call rota.
- Respond promptly to system failures, completing diagnostics to minimise downtime and disruption.
- Assist other airport departments by utilising your specialist mechanical skills.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent).
- Experience working with Ground Service Equipment (GSE), HGVs, or Plant machinery.
- Light Vehicle Mechanics will also be considered with relevant transferable skills.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Experience preparing vehicles for MOT testing.
- Basic IT proficiency for updating maintenance systems.
